Chapter 1 Prison.

Chapter 1, Prison.

My family tree is different from others. Long ago, when people were first sent to the ark. No one had relatives that survived. Except for the Murphy's. Two sisters managed to join their station to the arc. From then on we have been the only family tree to have off branch relatives. Everyone else has a mother and a father, their parents have parents. And so on. But for us it's different, I have an auntie, uncle and cousin as well. Because of this, my whole family is very close and decided to keep the family name as remembrance.

"They're doing it" John choked as I embraced him in a tight hug.

"I'm so sorry"

That's all I can come up with, an apology. Even though it's not my fault his father is getting floated, but still I apologise. Maybe it's more of an apology for his loss. Still, all I can spit out is a sorry statement.

"It's all my fault" He sobs.

I pull him out of the hug so he's forced to face me.

"Listen John" I say firmly "This is not your fault at all, don't think like that"

He slowly nods, not meeting my eyes. I can tell he doesn't trust my words, or believe them. But even I'm not that heartless to yell at him more, he's losing his father today.

"It's time" Amalia whispers, hardly looking at her son.

It's only been a couple of hours since Alex's arrest and she has already abandoned John as a son. She blames him for her husbands arrest, since he was getting medicine for John in the first place.

"I'm coming" I mutter to him as we walk down the halls.

"Thanks" he manages to answer through sniffles.

After a short walk we arrive at the floating station.

Guards are standing at the doors and immediately stop me as I enter.

"I'm family" I spit, the guard looked shocked and releases his grip on my shirt.

Having a famous family name does have that effect on some people.

John runs up to Alex, embracing him in a loving hug.

They whisper goodbyes, Amalia does the same. He turns to me and stoops down to hug me.

"Look after my boy, Marie" he smiles, breaking from our hug.

"I will" I smile back, tears begin to fill my eyes.

Alex turns to Chancellor Jaha, who's impatiently waiting by the control panel.

"It isn't too late to stop this" Alex begs.

The chancellor sighs, nodding at two guards. They notice the signal and grab Alex, forcing him into the lock box as he continues to yell.

"Your ruining my family" he yells "But you can stop this, spear me my life and-"

He is interrupted in the middle of his sentence, Jaha pulls the switch and Alex is pulled into oblivion.

John turns to me, tears are pouring down his face. He leans his face into my shoulder, turning away from the murder scene.

Rage builds inside of me. I've always been protective of my family, especially since I was lucky enough to have a larger one than usual. But this was different, I've never witnessed a floating before and I'm not happy I had to witness one today. Especially because it was Alex, who did everything he could for the ones he loved.

I break away from John and walk behind Chancellor Jaha, who's being escorted out of the floating station. 

"You piece of shit" I spit between gritted teeth, the guards turn around to face me.

All of them immediately snap out their weapons.

"Don't do anything stupid Marie" Jaha warns me "Don't ruin your family name like Alex did"

I can feel my cheeks go red at the use of his name, how dare he mention him. Especially since he just murdered him.

"I'll do what I want" I grunt and managed to tackle Jaha to the ground.

I only managed one punch to his smirk face before my back is prodded with electronic shocks.

"I told you" he sighs, pushing me to the side "Take her away."

My body is paralysed, I have no way to run or fight back. Instead I lay still on the ground until my eyes close and I black out.
