The element of darkness was always something to ponder about. It wasn't clear if the creator had even made one. It would make more sense of the element had been a result of the destroyer's banishment and he had turned the element of light into darkness. Of course, this wasn't the case. Light and darkness were two key elements that played a role in the making of the universe, but there was a complexity about darkness. Rumor has it that the creator could not create darkness, and he took it from his brother which resulted the reason why the million year battle took place.

As time came for the prophecy to come into motion, the element of darkness did not at first emerge. Being an extreme complex element with origins from the creator, it is not sure who or what it first came from, but here are the speculations.

Midnight, a WindClan cat, was a key part in unlocking the element. The first origins of the element, however, came from a cat named Ghost. Apparently the element grew inside her and eventually turned her into a form of pure darkness. The only way to pass on an element was to kill the cat with an element, but darkness worked the opposite way. The element of darkness chooses a specific cat to carry the element, but why it fully possessed Ghost is unknown. The element was drawn towards Midnight. After the great battle with Redclaw and his group, Midnight fled the clans. But she was caught by Ghost. In an instant, Ghost wasted to time with "killing" her, and the element along with Ghost's spirit combined within Midnight. Eventually, the result of this ritual was Midnight Moon. She was an entirely new being with the powers of a normal element and the combined spirits of Midnight and Ghost. Yet, she had no recollection of her past. Why such a happening occurred is still a mystery.
