"3, 2, 1... Happy New Years!!" Everyone shouted in sync, then leaning in to kiss one another. And there I stood, alone, staring at the opposite side of the river Thames. I had always been alone- you see, and I doubt 2005 will be any different. I needed to get away, but where could I go that would be far enough away from London that I wouldn't have to even think about that scumbag David ever again?
"Olivia!" A voice called. I turned my head and found it to be my older brother Noah, trying to make his way through the crowd and reaching out his hand for me to grab. He pulled me through the sea of people, all kissing and showing some sort of love to one another. And then the song Old Lang Syne began to play from some speakers on Tower bridge, and the fireworks started to boom. This was supposed to be a happy time, but for me it was a struggle to hold in the tears.
Noah finally let go of me when we reached a pub called The Rose and Crown. I followed him inside, where we sat at a table surrounded by family and friends.
"Hello Mia." I said to Noah's fiancé.
"Hey Liv, having a nice night?" She asked.
I was just about to answer, when my eyes found the love of my life, David Martin, with his fucking tongue down some girls throat.
"What the fuck is he doing here?" I whispered to Noah.
"He's a family friend, he had to be here!" Noah said. "Just act like an adult and get over it."
"I think I need a drink." I said. I shoved through all the people and made my way to the bar. "One double vodka and Coke please."
"Can I see some ID?" The bartender said.
"Are you fucking serious?" I almost yelled. "I'm fucking twenty-three, I shouldn't still be asked for ID!" The bartender just looked at me, expressionless, and I huffed and began rummaging through my bag for my driving licence.
"Miss?" Said an American, male voice. I looked up. Oh my fucking god, this man was beautiful. He had blonde hair, sharp blue eyes that seemed to be always squinting, he was tall and looked buff as fuck. I smiled at him. "Let me buy you this one. One vodka and Coca-Cola." He said to the bartender.
"Make it a double." I said, and he smiled.
"Perhaps you'd like to come and sit with me?" The man asked. "My name's Frank." He offered his hand for me to hold and of course I didn't refuse, any opportunity to make David jealous. He led me over to a booth near the back of the pub and when we sat down he didn't really say anything. It was okay though, I noticed David watching us as we walked past them. We had only been sat down for about 10 minutes when I look up to see David stood towering over us.
"Babe, what are you doing?" He said.
"Do you know him?" Frank asked.
"No, what are you doing David?" I said.
"So you do know him??" Said Frank, becoming more irritated.
"This is my girlfriend." David said to Frank. "How dare you try to take her over here and rape her."
"Rape her?!" Frank yelled, standing up.
"I'm not his girlfriend!" I said to Frank. He just shook his head at me and left. I sat back down, my head in my hands and sighed.
"See how lucky you are to know me?" David said, sitting down next to me.
"No. I actually liked him David." I said.
"I know darling. Maybe we should just go back to my place." He said. I nodded and let him pull me up, and we left the pub together. I knew exactly where is house was, I had been there enough times. I don't know why I went with him, I knew he was a dickhead. I suppose I just wanted to feel loved. However, when we got to his, the last thing I felt was loved. I felt like an object, like some sort of sex toy. I should have known that going home with David would make me feel even worse than I already did.
