Laura woke up shivering. Outside her room, she could hear the little boy bouncing around in his room with chattering teeth.

Laura pushed herself up, brushing the dust on her body. She yawns and fed the boy some snacks. Then the man came, a blank expression on his face. "It's time," he told the brunette in his gruffy voice. Laura ignored him.

She passed the tall man and out the door. Unsurprisingly, the man was following her, taking note of every step she takes. Then Laura sighed. "Will you at least tell me your name?" She begs.

He hesitate. "Jacob," he frowns. Judging by the look on his face, she knew that he didn't want to talk anymore. Not about him, anyway. As she walked, images of Ellen popped in her brain. She swallowed.

She'd missed her mom already, so much it hurts. Apparently the king was the only thing she was going to miss here. She would not cry, she promised herself. Not in front of anyone, especially Ross.

She was growing attached to the boy. She looked up at the cloudless sky with a frown on her exhausted face. She could see her father, smiling, waving at her.

Ross was waiting, yet again, for Laura. He helped her up the stairs eagerly. "So what? No math today?" Laura asked with a short laugh. He smiled, "Just review."

They sat in their own seats. The man-Jacob, was watching her intensely. "So what?" Laura repeated uneasily under Jacob's stare. "He will test us," Ross gestured towards the man.

"Whoever says the answer first wins." He grinned, ready for a battle. Laura bit her lips. Does she care about winning? No. She much rather have some fun. This is going to be fun. Her mind told her, and she nodded yes.

Ross was excited. "4×2?" Jacob asked without any hint that he was starting. Laura started to focus after Ross answered 8. She congratulated him, rolling her eyes at his grin. "5×2?" "10," she answered immediately.

Jacob looked impressed, although he tried not to show it. The rest of Jacob's questions came out like a statement. Laura's mind was spinning when the competition ended. She had won.

To her suprise, Ross showed good sportsmanship, congratulating her and saying that he'll do better. Somehow, Laura was beyond happy when Ross offered a walk with her to the beach.

Sweet of him, yes. Expectedly, Laura blushed as Ross took her hand, and started swinging it. "So what happens in the future?" Ross started the conversation, staring ahead with a light smile.

"Oh, amazing stuff," Laura answered with a smile in her voice. "Television, phones, and food, ahhhh food." Her stomach rumbled. Ross laughs, "So how's the food?" He asked her, teasing. "Good," she mumbled.

"I'm a really big fan of food, too." Ross says, trying to make Laura's head pop back up. She popped it back up as the red disappeared from her face. "Oh I think you'll love everything in the future," she grumbled through her slightly closed mouth.

Ross was amused. "Yeah, I bet I will," Then Laura sighed. "Ross, I really miss my mom." She told him with a sad face. "Aww, but what about your dad? Does he not love you?" Ross meant it as a joke, but Laura was not amused.

Her stomach turned and her blank expression turned to a snarl. Ross quickly realized what he'd done. "Oh! I'm so sorry Laura," he apologize, biting his lip. "I didn't mean it." A frown still on her face, she sighed and accepted his apology.

"What happened to your parents?" Laura asked through a pained expression. Ross shrugged, "I don't know, Jacob was 16 when I was born, and he told me my parents left, and passed the throne to me."

He paused, searching for the memory. "They left this message," he took a crumpled paper out of his pocket.

Dear, Ross.

I'm sorry I had to do this. There was some issues with....something you should not know until the right time.
You'll know when the right time is. You'll feel it. She'll help you.

But just so you know, my name is Stormie. Your dad's name is Mark.

We are very sorry to hand the throne to you without any explanations of why we left, just this letter.

Know that we did not leave you for something unimportant. This is really important. We had to leave you, for your own good.

Something everyone needs help with, somewhere far, far away.

We are not what you think we are. A good and bad thing.

She'll come soon.

Be patient.

Your life will start soon.

Have fun with her Ross, she'll be your life. She'll be the one that keeps your heart beating. She will be your everything.

From your mother, Stormie.
