Faryn started heading back to her room. She knew she had been out longer than she should have. Suddenly the door was swung open and Prince Odell stormed out, then he noticed her. His smile sickened the Princess. He knew she had overheard, but he didn't try to cover it up. He grabbed her arm firmly, and pulled a dagger from his boot. He hid it in the ruffles of her dress, but she could feel it pressing against her back. The message was clear. Struggle, and I'll dispatch you. His fingernails started to dig into her skin. Every ounce of the Princesses being yearned to be far away from this loathsome excuse of a human. They arrived at her chamber where he shoved her in.
"If you speak of this to anyone, I'll make sure no one in your precious Kingdom will survive this war." He took his dagger and held it to her throat. He wrapped it around her necklace and yanked. The chain broke and the beautiful pendant fell to the ground. It shattered into hundreds of peaces. Odell slammed the door, hitting Faryn in the nose. She stumbled backwards. Once she regained her surroundings, she wept. Huge sobs raking up and down her body like she had expected when hearing the news she was to be traded to Prince Odell for peace. She fell to the ground. She swept the pieces of her necklace into a pile and scooped it up. She held it to her heart. Oh her dear Antionio. She would give anything for one last moment with him.
The pieces of her broken necklace lifted out of her hand. They started to swirl around in the air. The necklace was fixed, and it started to grow larger and larger. At last it took the form of a gold and silver dragon, roughly the size of a horse. It looked at the Princess, who shrunk away in terror. The dragon spewed steam from its nostrils before bowing to her. She slowly reached out and placed her hand out. It moved forward so her hand was on its nose. It made a contented purring sound. The dragon, who Faryn named Ashkanaz, noticed the finger shaped bruises on her arm where Odell had grabbed her. He breathed steam onto them and Faryn no longer felt the pain of his hands that had lingered long after he let go. The bruises faded. Faryn smiled. She hadn't smiled a real smile since she left the palace.
The maid screamed as Ashkanaz smashed down the chamber door. Faryn rode on his back. They charged through the palace. Maids and other palace staff dived out of the way. Anyone who stood in the way of the dragon got a nice tan. Faryn didn't want to kill anyone, but Odell had to pay for what he did. Faryn looked out the window and saw the Prince's royal carriage speeding away from the palace.
"There!" Faryn screamed to Ashkanaz. She pointed out the window. The dragon folded his mighty wings over the Princess to protect her. He jumped out the window and plummeted to the ground before unfurling them at the last second. They swooped above the ground and lifted higher into the sky. "Whohoo!" Faryn pumped her fists in the air. They soared after the Prince's carriage.
