I sat waiting in traffic starring ahead of me at the light blue porche and thinking. Trying to talk myself into not even bothering to try and get to class on time. I was already running late when I ran out the door of my house, and now sitting here in traffic. School can wait for another day, I thought as I reached over to turn on the radio. " In recent news, another person was found dead today at the university. No update on who the suspect may be." I shook my head as I heard the man's already irritating nasaly voice with obvious fake mourn and a hint of sarcasm. traffic started moving along as I started to think more about the people dying. The terrifying thing to me was that those innocent people, were people that I remembered seeing. Either walking pass me or making a scene in front of everyone with their significant other. As annoying it might have been, I should feel sad or at least a bit guilty. Yet something in me just doesn't and I haven't the slightest clue why.
I was so deep in thought, I didn't realize my phone had been ringing until I heard the chorus to Aerosmith's 'I don't want to miss a thing'. I answered it as quickly as I could with one hand while looking around to see if there were any cops. "Hello?" I answered. "Brin! where the hell are you?! we were supposed to start our project today!" My best friend Amelia yelled. Of course while thinking about everything else, I had forgotten about our project. I quickly came up with some lame excuse that was only partly true. " Amelia, I'm so sorry. I started to get a migraine and I could barely get out of bed. Ive been napping and I guess I just forgot to text you." Like I said before about it being partly true, I was startinng to get a headache. She sighed, " It's cool I guess. I know how you get when you get your migraine's. I'll just do some of the research. Can you do some as well, so that I'm not doing all of the work??" Of course she would ask that. If anyone hated work more it would be Amelia. " Yes of course my darling. Anything else??" I asked sarcasm thick on my tongue. " Oh yea I almost forgot. Mason said he has the pictures you wanted." She obviously didn't get my hint of sarcasm. " Alright then, I'll head over to the school in a bit." As I was about to hang the phone up I heard her yell out one more thing that made me freeze. " Be careful walking around over at the university. It's real dangerous out there with the killer and all." She hung up. I was so surprised she even cared about me that much to warn me and make sure I was safe. I shook my head and turned my car around noticing the peculiar change in the air. It was autumn, and it wasn't strange to feel a little alone at this time of day. But with the decrease of cars on the road in those few minutes made me suspect that something wasn't exactly right.
I pulled in to the university parking lot, and parking in a teachers parking spot. I was only going to be there 5 minutes tops. So it's not like anyone would have a problem with it. I walked in the hallway moving towards the dark room. i knocked twice before opening the door. Mason wasn't there but a note next to the pictures.
Brinny,
Something came up. Here are your pictures. If you need anything you know who to call.
your ghost buster, Mason J.
I laughed and shook my head. 'Silly boy' I thought, walking out towards the parking lot where I saw a man standing next to my car. I stopped walking and stared. I didn't know whether to be scared or just annoyed that I got this far and something happens now. As I started to shuffle closer the person turned to look at me. " Brinnie??" They said. I got confused. There was only one person that had ever called me that, and I haven't seen or heard from him since graduation from highschoool. I decided what the hell. If it isn't him then it isn't him and I'm about to die. " Jackson??" I said softly. " Yea. It's me. gosh I haven't seen you in a while how are ya??" As he stepped into the brightness coming from the light above me. "I'm fine. We're both still stuck in this town I see." I said trying to make something funny out of this situation. He chuckled " Yea I guess so." I looked around awkwardly. He shuffled his feet a bit then said " Is this your car??" I looked at my car, then back at him. Noticing now that he was wearing a uniform. " Your a cop now??" Trying to change the topic of discussion away from the fact that I had parked illegally. He looked down as if noticing it for the first time. "Oh yea, that's where I went after graduation. I went and trained for 3 years and well now a year and a half later, here I am." I nodded. It doesn't seem like its been 4 and a half years since graduation. But time flies I guess. He went into his pocket and took out a card. "Cll me if you need anything. Protection, a friend, shoulder to cry on, a date. Y'know whichever." I looked at him with a smirk before taking the card and putting it in my jacket pocket. " See you later Jay boy." I said while walking to the car. Sitting in the car and smiling I watch the people in their cars drive in for their night classes. Setting my pictures on the passenger seat I started the car and drove home.
Walking into my house I put the pictures on my desk with my papers and laptop. walking into the kitchen I feel a sharp pain in my head. I start to move closer to the medicine cabinet when I slipped landing on the ground with a hard thud. The pain becoming unbearable I gave into unconsciousness.
She awoke on the cold hard ground. Smirking, she got up and stretched. She giggled as she left the abbandoned house walking as if she were being watched by everyone. With poise and confidence. She got closer to her favorite spot giggling again as she looked at the little bit of scattered people. Wondering and waiting until she foudn her prey for that night. She sat by her tree, and waited whispering to herself " I'm gonna find ya and I'm gonna get ya." In her southeren drawl. spotting someone who had wandered away she giggles again while getting up and whipsering lightly " Let the chase begin."
I woke up on the ground in my kitchen. Sighing to myself, I stood up and got some advil for the after pains that would soon come. Filling a glass up with water I took two pills. trudged back to my room to notice a rope and knife covered in blood on the ground by my bed. Being used to this strange occurance after waking up from being unconscious, I went into the kitchen to grab the bleach and threw the rope in the trash. I went back into my room to clean up the mess on my bedroom floor. I then cleaned the knife in the sink. Not tired enough to sleep I turned on the tv. flipping through the channels I spot the university on one of the news channels. I left it there to see a woman standing in the woods near the school and in front of an ambulance with a gurney insode of it. " Another body was found near the university tonight. A young man by the name of Chase Logan. His girlfriend was the one who identified him as he like all of the other men and women had their identities taken from them. Still no suspect to report. But if anyone has any information call the number at the bottom-" I turned the tv off starting to become tired. I went into my room and fell asleep on my bed.
The next morning I woke up to falling. My eyes shot open as I found myself on the floor near my bed. I started to get up and get ready to go over to Amelia's, when I noticed my sheet was caught on the floor boards beneath me. I bent down and got the loose floor board in my hand and pulled it up. Getting the loose string off of the board, I go to place it back in it's place when a picture catches my eye. I put the loose floor board down beside me and put my hand down into the hole and grab a card. Putting it up to my face I realize with sudden horror that in my hand I had the license of Chase Logan. I began to feel fear coarse through my body as I put my hand back down in the hole and grab out al l the cards I could feel. Going through all of the licenses I realize I have all of the missing things from the murders. thinking that someone had broke into my house I run to go to the phone. With the phone in my hand I start to dial the number on the card. waiting for him to pick up I look up at myself in the mirror and find a hand shaped bruise around my neck. The hand print was bigger than my dainty hand. I began to panick. Dropping the phone I run into my room to get dressed. All the while I was tripping over myself. I had gotten my shirt on when I heard a knock on the door. I go out to answer it and see Jackson standing there looking slightly panicked. " Hey you called??" Laughing slightly I start to close the door saying, " Yea missdialled. I meant to call someone else." He put his foot in the door way stopping the door from closing on him. "Mind if I come in then??" He stared at me intently. "Of course, come right in." I stepped away from the door to let him in and walked into the kitchen asking him if he would like something to drink. I needed something, anything to keep me busy while I try to figure out how to get out of this. I walk back into the living room when Jackson went quiet. I walked in seeing him starring at all of the missing licenses from the murder scenes. " I really wished it wasn't true." He said looking up at me. I looked at him confused. I was about to say something when he interrupted me, " They caught you on tape killing Chase Logan, Brinnie." Taken aback I sat down on the couch. Jackson sat down infront of me on the coffee table. "Brinnie, listen. If someone is making you do this, you can tell me and I can make it so that you don't go to jail for all of these murders." He tried reasoning with me, and making sure that it wasnt me. When I wasn't entirely sure that it was me either. But they have ME on tape killing to guy. "Jackson they won't believe me. There is no way convincing them when my grand mother was one of the most famous murderer in the old country." I said. He shook his head and looked at me. "Yes but Brinnie.. your grandmother had multiple personality disorder. there is no way they can pin that on you." he tried to reason. but I had realized something. The reason for my fainting spells. The reason why my last boyfriend claimed that I was too aggresive when I never did anything close to hurting him. Looking around my eyes landed on the one thing that would fix everything. I quickly leaned forward into Jackson, pulled his gun out of his holster, while pushing him away and shooting myself. Jackson called an ambulance, and I was sent straight to the hospital. When I woke up, I was in a bed in a white room where I have been ever since. She comes out to play somethimes but the nurses have drugs for that.
