Cold November Rain

Val couldn't breathe.

I don't even know the guy. But for fuck's sake, he's a famous rockstar that you happen to like! A lot.

She felt rather foolish thinking about all of this as he was standing right next to her. He had just told her who he was and if she just remained silent, it would surely be awkward. Infact it was already awkward. Rude, Val, rude.

"I haven't seen you around here before. Are you new?" She tried to make small talk, ignoring the fact that she was still nearly naked and covered with his jacket now.

"I'm visiting family friends for a while." He was quick to add that with a smile. "Do you always get half naked in the rain? Because I've noticed that it rains a lot here.." And as soon as he said that, he felt like an utter jackass. Facepalm, Axl, who the fuck talks like that?

His inquiry clearly embarrassed her and she was flushed all over. A deep red could be seen in her cheeks and now that the red paint had been washed off, he could see her smooth and clear olive skin.

"Uh, no, not at all. Infact I mostly stay indoors." She stated plainly.

"I'm glad you came out today then, Valerie. My dull night has been brightened. For that, I thank you darlin'." He added with a hint of some southern drawl.

Cheeky fucker. Val couldn't help but be charmed by all that he was saying. He's smooth. Ah.

"Mr. Rose, I had no idea I was that entertaining." She added with an innocent smile. Two can play that game.

He was serious then all of a sudden. "Let me escort you inside, love. You're freezing."

Valerie made her way towards the door and he followed behind. As soon as they entered her home, they were engulfed with the warmth of the living room. She had left the furnace on, thankfully. For a crazy moment, Val forgot her 'clothing situation' and took off Axl's jacket. She realized her mistake in exactly 5 seconds, after which she immediately turned back to look at him.

He was staring at her intently. Somehow, his intimate gaze seemed to strip away all of her defenses. It felt as if he could see through her.

Right then and there, Valerie realized that no man had ever looked at her that way. Throughout her teenage years, many men had approached her and some even showed a lot of promise. But she felt immune to their charms and silly flirtations. Either they were too sweet or too dumb. She couldn't decide which, most of the times. After trying to make it work with several men from the age of sixteen to twenty - she finally gave up one day. Dates and flowers were not for her, she often thought so.

Despite all of that, Valerie was never desperate enough to throw herself at anyone and everyone. She felt like she owed nothing to nobody. Maybe I'll just be the old lady with 40 cats.

"Has anyone told you to not prance around naked infront of men, especially when you look like the way you do?" Axl asked in all his seriousness.

This rather confused Val. "I look like what?"

"You're beautiful. More beautiful than you know." Axl blurted out. As soon as he did, he knew he couldn't take it back - not anymore. He was breaking way too many rules tonight. I should fucking go already.

He turned away to unlock the door and in a flash, he was gone. Just like that.

GOOD LORD!

Val stood there, dumbstruck, in her living room infront of the fire. Her gaze fell upon the black leather jacket. His jacket.

Fuck, fuck, fuck, FUCK! Fuckity, fuck.

Axl's mind was racing and he couldn't believe what he had done. He had broken up with Erin just some days ago and here he was, trying to get into another girl's pants. This is what he loathed about himself. The fact that he could not go long without being physical with someone - anyone, pissed him off. He was now second guessing his decision of breaking up with Erin. At least she kept his bed warm at night.

What the fuck is wrong with me?! Now he felt even more terrible.

Axl had felt many times that he was misunderstood by women, and people in general. He felt as if he could never portray his actions properly or atleast the way he wanted to. However, in the present situation, he doubted all of that. Maybe he was a horrible person. He had loved Erin with all his heart. He knew he did. Then why had it failed? And now he was thinking of keeping her just to be some kind of a whore for him?

He sank down on his bed and began to stare at the ceiling. Valerie.

He had told her his name. Did she know who he was? He was insanely famous, after all. He couldn't even be in the grocery store without wearing three layers of baggy clothing and over-sized sunnies. But the strange thing had been that it didn't look like she knew. She looked at him without any questions or judgment in her eyes. Her eyes had been devoid of any signs of recognition. Even if she did know him, she did a good job of hiding it. Or maybe she really did not wish to bother him, considering he had saved her.

Save her? It was just some fuckin' paint. He still didn't understand what that had been all about but he chose not to think about it.

All the thinking did make him sleepy. He had been up since 4 a.m. because they had an early jamming session. He closed his eyes and for a brief moment, he saw an image of Val.

She was shining like the sun, her thick chocolate-brown hair fell all over her face and her breathtaking smile made his heart nearly miss a beat.

Axl's eyes snapped open. One thing he figured out instantly was the fact that he had never been so drawn to a woman before. His entire body shook with want.

The thunder grew louder and he had to make a run to close the window. Rain fell furiously over the trees and everywhere else. Cold November Rain.
