Chapter 4: Something

"THIS...IS...AWESOME!!!!!" Whitney says, flailing her head and arms dangerously, and I can hear her loud laughter echo in my ears.

I grin as I speed up a little more, and realise I've passed Jack, and look back to see his jaw touching the floor, his eyes as wide as the moon.

"Impressed, bro?" I laugh looking forward, as I see the silhouettes of Damien and Tabitha and the gates suddenly seem so much closer.

Jack finally snaps out of his shock and starts running towards us, his eyebrows cocked upwards, clearly impressed. He shoots me a grin and I grin back, diverting my attention back to the gates. Tabitha and Damien have turned back too, their attention suddenly on us. They look as shocked as Jack and I grin and give them a thumbs up. I can feel Whitney wave her hand wildly, and hear her say something, but it only sounds like murmurs in the loud, strong breeze blowing against my ears.

I finally run up to Damien, who's grinning from ear to ear.

"Welcome back, jaguar!" he yelled and I smile.

"Good to be back, sir!" I grin, and he grins back.

I knew that instant that we had to be twins. I felt connected to him, like we had the same brain or something.

"Okay, final push guys! Run!!!" Tabitha yells, and she's suddenly off. My eyes snap back to the gates and I take a deep breath, trying to not collapse from Whitney's overexcited self.

"Hold on, okay?" I whisper and she eagerly nods, wrapping her arms tightly around my neck, but not tight enough that I collapse from lack of air.

"WOOOO!" I burst into a hard sprint, the wind suddenly a distraction, an obstacle. I hear footsteps behind me and I know that's Jack, because Tabitha's already way ahead and Damien is right next to me.

"Finally!" Tabitha cheers, as she runs through the gates, dropping to the floor and panting.

"Hey! Wait for me!" I scream as I see Jack (somehow) run in, screaming some nonsense on the way in.

"Hurry up, slowpoke!" Jack screeches, as I finally am in, gasping and panting for air like it's getting over in ten seconds. I feel Whitney loosen his arms and suddenly my back is relieved of a weight. I collapse on the floor, not caring about anything at the moment other than the fact that we made it.

I feel a hand ruffle my hair and I look up to see Damien, and he shoots me a grin.

"Well done sis, that was awesome!" he continues ruffling my hair as sweat drips down his face, his face redder than a tomato.

"I know." I flip my hair dramatically as he rolls his eyes.

"Oh my, you are oh so very humble!" he exclaims , and I smile sweetly.

"You have never been smarter." I giggle, and he scoffs.

"Aren't you guys tired?" Tabitha pants, her hands planted on her knees. Her eyes search our faces for fatigue, and she probably wouldn't have to look too much, since it was basically written on my forehead.

"Yea...very...."I say through swallows of breath. My heartbeat echoes in my ears, drumming away like a metronome on fast speed.

"That was...impressive, Azure." I hear Jack's voice from my left and snap my head back. He said my name..? For some strange reason, the way he said my name doesn't make it seem so cool and awesome like I thought.

"Thanks.." I smile, and I immediately glance at Whitney. She's seated next to Tabitha, who converse quietly. She rolls up her pant and I grimace when I see the scar is only bleeding more.

Wait...

I turn around and try looking at my shirt, and scream. What I assumed was mine and Whitney's sweat combined is actually blood, drenching my shirt in a nasty smell.

"You got a spare shirt, Tabs?" I groan, running hurriedly towards Tabs, my eyes screaming at her to help. She was almost like the mother of the group, the wisest.

"Huh? Why? Lemme see." she hurriedly twirls me around, and the gasps that escape her's and Whitney's mouth don't make me feel any less annoyed.

"Oh my god, Azure I'm so sorry!!!" Whitney yelped, her hands clambering up to her mouth. "I swear I didn't mean to-"

"I know." I calmed her, trying to calm myself along with it. "It's okay. It's not your fault.

"What's going- WHOA!" Damien stops himself as he sees my shirt, his eyes widening. "What happen sis?!"

"Blood. Whitney." That's all I need to say. I see his eyebrows furrow as he puts two and two together and I then see his forehead crease.

"Whitney, are you okay?!" he worriedly questioned, his eyes panicky and stressed.

"I'm fine.." she quietly states, her eyes gazing at my sweat-drenched shirt. "I'm just really guilty and angry at myself for not using my brain and-"

"There's nothing that can be done." Tabitha snaps, and Whitney flinches a little but nods meekly. I look at Damien, who looks back at me and shrugs.

"Here, Azure. Catch." Tabitha chucks me a sky blue shirt, ripped on the edges and dust all around it. I catch it awkwardly and look around.

"You can go there." Damien points at a left turning, and I nod. I quietly walk there, my eyes searching for any abnormal animal activity. Finding none, I quickly undress and change shirts, pulling away in disgust when I see the blood. I carefully wipe it off with the unstained part of my shirt, sighing. Why did this happen to me? I just wanted a normal house, and a normal life. Not this...tragedy. I quickly pull the blue shirt over my head, as it sags almost till my knees. Yea, Tabs was that tall. And I was a little more than five and a half feet. I turn to leave, but notice a shine from the corners of my eye. Skidding around, I rush towards it, as I bend down. On the ground, I'm encountered with a rusty whistle, no I take it back. The rustiest thing of all time: this whistle. The colour had faded away, leaving just specs of gold in the disgustingly brown-grey field. But it was noticeable.

I decide to take it, it might be worth something
