"Piper...Piper...PIPER!"

I hear my mother as though she was in a far away land trying to get back to me.

"What happened! Oh not again..."

You see I had been a perfectly normal, happy sixteen-year-old girl until the crash. Now I have to bother with narcolepsy and I can't even cheer anymore because of it. Not only that, but I lost the only real friend I had ever had... Lacey. We were coming home from a cheer competition and Lacey was driving because she was a year older than me. Then, all of a sudden a drunk driver crashes into the driver side of the car. The last thing I heard was the scream coming out of Lacey's mouth.. or had it been my own escaping before I had a chance to blackout?

I awoke in a hospital bed battered and bruised.

"What happened?" I asked my mother

Ohh..Pipes I..I don't want to have to tell you this but, you and Lacey were in a crash, You're the only survivor."

"Nooo" I screamed at the top of my lungs

In the next few months I want to Lacey's funeral there I cried more than I had ever cried in my entire life almost as if I was crying all the rain on the Earth. Mom decided I need a new area that I could call home so she shipped us across the country. Los Angeles, yeah, well that was something I was ready for... not! If anything could get even worse it did. My grandfather died in the next few months as well and without Lacey there to protect me from the burden, it was almost like I lost them all over again. I decided I would be better to never meet anyone new. I felt like if I got to attached they would just end up like Lacey and my grandpa so I stop talking, acted like it was a side effect of the narcolepsy. Of course it didn't Work on everyone, only the kids at school that decided I was too weird to out with them. I can't be on the cheer team so why not screw up my life. I just wanted to sit there and do nothing. That was until I met Tad. Tad was the only kid who ever cared about me. He talked to me whenever had no one would. Even though I never answered I could tell understood me. That night I went home and told my mother everything. She cried tears of joy to hear my voice again. For once I felt like I wanted to talk forever but, I knew that I would never ever talk to anyone not even Tad and I realized that as the months went on and he finally stop talking to me. Got tired of not getting an answer. I went home and now we're back at the beginning. I went to school the next day and ate lunch all alone.

"Hi!" I heard a perky voice say.

"Scarlet, don't even. She won't talk." I looked up and Emmalyn and Scarlet were standing in front of me.

Right then I broke my vow of silence just to prove Emmalyn wrong.

"Hi." I replied

"OMG! You can talk!" They said in unison.

"of course I can I just didn't feel like talking earlier." I replied.

"You should really talk more often Piper." Emmalyn said as she sat down next to me.

Ya," said Scarlet," I bet you would have a lot more friends."

"I don't need friends. The last friend I had I lost."

"We could be your friends"

"...Why would you want be be friends with me. I'm ugly"

"No your not you just need to be revamped, come over to my house I'm giving you a make over.' Scarlett decided.

The next day as I approached Scarlet's front door, I could hear squeals inside.

"ding-dong" the doorbell rung.

And I blacked out...
