A Victorian secret

Chapter Three - The room

  Turning around Elizabeth found herself face to face with Miranda.

 " I'm not brave I just have a thing called common sense". Looking around the maid, Elizabeth made sure to check if Sarah and her family were okay. " Are you guys aright" She asked.

 "We are fine my mother's just a bit light headed but she is fine" Sarah said " But like Miranda said I have never seen anyone talk like that to the master you are incredible Beth"

 "Beth? " 

"Oh sorry... um I can call you Beth right? " Sarah asked

 " Yeah go ahead" Elizabeth replied. 

 "Okay girls enough of the chit chat. Bernard" A tall man walked in. " Please call a coach to take Sarah's family to the cottage on dairy lane"

 "Yes mam" He answers.

 Taking Sarah's mother carefully by the arm he lead her to a carriage.

 "Now you two follow me" Miranda ordered. Following the maid Elizabeth and Sarah were led up the long stairwell, along a corridor and too a door far at the other end of the house. "This will be your room" Miranda said opening the door.

 Inside was a small step leading down into the room. In the middle of the room was a small stage like board with a humongous bed sitting on top. Near to the entrance there was a couch and a small table and opposite on the other end of the room was a desk. To the right was a private bathroom through a smaller door and to the left their was a small wardrobe to keep clothes in. At the back was a window leading into a balcony. "This place is beautiful" Elizabeth exclaimed.

 "It is but I thought that no one could ever enter this part of the house let alone this room" Sarah said in puzzlement. "The master gave me a small inflation before he left that he wanted her here in this room out of the way just in case a visitor decides to stay" Miranda said harshly. 

 " Well isn't he charming" Elizabeth said sarcastically. 

 "I will leave you her miss. Sarah follow me you have work. Miss dinner is at 6 Sharp and I will send Sarah in with some more appropriate clothes."

 With that Miranda left with Sarah leaving Elizabeth to do nothing but think about what she was going to do next. She had suddenly said on a whim she would stay in this house so Sarah and her family would be aright but she had to get home. Looking around her room Elizabeth walked out and decided to explore. Down stairs and around many corridors she went.

 "This really is a big place" she said to herself. 

Suddenly she heard Sarah's voice outside. Jumping lightly from the window to the ground Elizabeth walked towards Sarah. "Hi "

 "Beth hello. I'm sorry I can not be with you now as I have work to do" Sarah said apologetically.

 "That's okay I'll help"

 And before Sarah could stop her Elizabeth picked up a piece of laundry and placed it in the water and began to scrub. " Wow girl this is difficult you are amazing to be able to do this for so long"

 "I'm not amazing but I think it would be better if you just put the clothes on the line" Sarah said laughing "You are so bad at this"

 "Oh really well take this" As she splashed water at Sarah.

 Sarah started chucking water back until both them and the clothes were soaked. After putting the clothes on the line they realised how late it was. "Oh no! Miranda will be looking for you as you will have to get changed before going down to dinner" said Sarah worried. Quickly the girls ran inside and up the stairs just in time before Miranda came in.

 "Well it is time to get ready for dinner" Miranda draw her to the bathroom and scrubbed her till she hurt all over. Going to the wardrobe the maid pulled out a dress coloured red and Brown with matching brown heels. Her hair was but into a elegant bun and was then lead by Miranda down to the dinning room.

 "Knock and wait until called" The maid said before leaving. Great she has left me alone with the beast, Elizabeth thought. Taking one last breath she knocked on the door until she heard a voice say " Enter". Opening the door Elizabeth walked in ready to face the master...
