Chapter 8
“Shit!” I muttered. As I spotted Remy and Abby sitting on the sofa facing the door. They both looked pissed with their arms cross.
The door knob slid from my grasp as the door was further pushed open from behind. Dylan wrapped his arms around my waist pulling me closer to his chest.
“Payton? Baby? Is everything o–” his words and body froze behind me.
“So did you two have fun tonight?” Abby asked, breaking the ice
Neither of us said a word. I felt Dylan breath tickle my ear as he whispered, “If you want to make a break for it just say the word and we’re gone.”
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you two,” Remy said as he raised his left eyebrow and looking at Dylan. His eyes eventually left him and he scrutinized me. I felt self-conscious as his eyes took in Dylan’s arms around my waist and the fact that I still had on Dylan’s jacket. His eyes finally met mine and narrowed.
“Payton why were you crying?” he asked calmly. I knew Remy like the back of my hand. I knew this was the calm before the storm.
“I wasn’t crying,” I finally told him. “I got an attack of allergies.”
“The only thing you’ve ever been allergic to is Gym class.” Remy told me as his face grew even darker. “I am disappointed that you feel you have to start to lie to me now. You’ve never lied to me before.”
I saw the hurt in his eyes and I felt really bad for lying to him. He is one of my best friends. No one knows me like Remy does.
Before I could tell Remy the truth, Dylan spoke up behind me. “I carried Payton out to get something to eat and….my hand made contact with her skin and she panicked at bit thinking I was one of her attackers. I managed to calm her down and I brought her back home ok.
Remy’s eyes were cold as they bore into Dylan. I shivered and Dylan arms tightened around me in reassurance.
“Look Remy, I was wrong ok. As I told Payton earlier, I like her a lot and I want to get to know her better. She has control of our relationship.”
I my head spun to Dylan but his eyes were focused on Remy. ‘We have a relationship?’
“She has the control to say how far or how fast our relationship progresses, if it does at all,” he continued to tell him. “I will never intentionally hurt her. I will never force myself on her in any way. I am not a randy school boy who is out for quick fuck. I have much more respect for her than that.”
The room was silent as Remy and Dylan had their staring competition. The tension between them was so thick; you could slice it with a sharp knife. Remy was first to look away. He let out a loud sigh before his eyes came to me.
“Well Payts, what are your thoughts on what Dylan just said?” Remy asked me seriously.
I felt my face turn flaming red. I wanted the floor to open up and swallow me whole. I felt Dylan’s arm tighten around me. I opened my mouth several times but nothing came out. I glanced at Abby who was trying her best to contain a smile. Her eyes sparkled with amusement.
I let out a groan as turned and buried my face in Dylan’s chest. His scent engulfs me as I attempt to hide. I felt his body shake with silent laughter as he rubbed my back gently. I heard Abby burst out laughing as she slapped her hands down on the sofa repeatedly. I groaned again and wrapped my arms tightly around Dylan’s waist.
“You don’t have to say anything,” he told me with a smile in his voice. “And there is no reason for you to be embarrassed.”
I glanced at Remy from the corner of my eyes. He still looked at me but his gaze didn’t look angry any more. I saw his body shaking as he tried to hold back a laugh. He in the end failed and burst out laughing.
