Chapter 1

Alexis's POV

Walking into the brick building, I could feel my heart thudding. Orientation day was finally here. I gasped at the inside of my new school, Meadow Creek. Colorful posters and banners decorated the lobby area. Several archways connected the lobby to large rooms that could be seen as theatres, cafeterias, and more lobbies. I found my way into a movie-like room that was labeled Theatre 2. According to my school packet this was where the new student orientation was. I snagged an empty seat near the back and waited for it to begin. There was a group of teachers in the front that were organizing large piles of papers, which I guessed to be our schedules. I pulled out my phone to text my mom when I heard someone talking to me.

"Is this seat taken?" asked a tan brunette. She pointed to the seat next to me.

"Nope," I replied. She sat down and started flipping through her packet.

"I'm Callie Harper." She held out her hand to me.

"Alexis McGail," shaking her hand. "Where are you from?"

"Here. You?"

"Italy," I answered.

"That's really cool. Why did you move here?"

"My mom got a new job. She's a professor at UCLA. How long have you lived here?" I replied.

"Basically my whole life. How many schools have you been to?"

"Um. Maybe six or so."

"Wow. I don't know if I'd be able to do that. Was it your mom's job that made you move?"

"No.."

"What, then?"

"I do--." I was cut off by the loud boom of a dropped microphone. I sigh in relief, I had no intention of sharing my past, at least no yet.

"Welcome students to Meadow Creek!" announced the women at the podium. "I am Principal Carden." Her speech went on and on. I zoned her out. "You are dismissed." I snapped back to reality when she ended her lecture.

"Let's go get our schedules," said Callie.

After getting our schedule we went up to the commons. We compared out schedules and had several classes together. Language arts, biology, gym, and French 1 were our first classes so we walked to them together. After that, we split up. I headed towards my science classroom. I was starting to get nervous since it was going to be an AP class. After the meeting my fifth period teacher, my bag was getting really heavy from all of my books. Luckily I was going to my locker soon. My homeroom teacher was the same teacher of my last class, math. I walked to the math wing. Inside the classroom, some students were talking to a man. I headed inside just as they left.

The man turned and I was greeted by the most gorgeous face I've ever seen. There was a slight dimple on his right cheek when he smiled at me. His warm chocolate brown eyes stared at me.

"Hi. Can I help you?" He asked me. I snap back to reality.

"Uh, I'm Alexis McGail and I'm in your homeroom and calculus class," I answer. I notice he's a little taller than me; I'm 5' 4". As he turns around to get some papers, I see the toned muscles under his Polo shirt.

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Coach Williams. Please don't call me Mister, it makes me feel old. Here's the syllabus. I would like it to be signed and returned by Friday. It says here that you are a new student. What school did you come from?" he asks.
