In 1763, as Mr and Mrs Hamilton awaited the birth of their fifth child, little Melanie, their eldest son, Edmund, walked in with his friend from the Kingston family.
"Mother, when must we leave?" Edmund asked.
You see, the Hamilton family has been around for many decades, serving as protectors of each new generation of Kingston's, since the year 1670. The Hamilton's made this deal after years and years of trying to conceive a child, but failing, and then they found out that the Kingston's were enchanter's and they granted the Mr and Mrs Hamilton's wish of having a child, but the price they paid was to serve as protectors for eternity, and with each child they had, they too became protectors.
"My dear Edmund, may you go fetch your brothers and sister?" Elizabeth, Mrs Hamilton, asked her eldest son. Edmund was one of four, almost five children, it went, Edmund, Emmet, Julia, then Marcus, then little Melanie was next. Edmund was many years older than Emmet and Emmet was many years older than Julia, and that's how it was, many years in between each child.
Marcus would soon be 27, yet only looked 22, and that was the same for his older siblings, Julia was 49, yet only 22, Emmet was 60, and looked the same age as his younger siblings, and Edmond was to be 93 soon, yet looked as young as the rest.
Over the next few weeks it got closer and closer to when Melanie is due to be born.
"Mother, Father, please, come help, trouble in the court yard!" Julia exclaimed out of breath. Elizabeth and Henry followed their daughter to see that, standing in the middle of the court yard was Marcus standing over a very still Christopher Kingston, the youngest of the newest generation of Kingston's and the child that Marcus was to protect.
Henry rushed over to Christopher and checked for any sign of life, but sadly found no pulse meaning he was dead. When Henry announced this, Elizabeth got a sharp pain in her lower stomach and water trickled down her leg. Everybody looked shocked.
Elizabeth screamed in pain and fell to the floor unconscious.
Henry looked petrified and the local nurse helped deliver Melanie, but it was too late, when Melanie was born, it was declared a still birth, meaning that Melanie was not breathing nor had a pulse.
One of the eldest of the Kingston family, and also the last enchantress of her generations, Lana, stood in the corner.
Henry knew this was not possible, unless meddled with by the Kingston enchanters, so he turned to Lana with a deathly glare on his face, "What did you do?"
"What did I do? What do you mean? Your son killed one of the Kingston children, that was not the deal; the deal was to keep them safe. So to be equal, I have placed your daughter into a state of sleep like death and she will not age, nor will she wake, until there is a Kingston family to monitor and protect." Lana explained what she had done, "Oh, and your wife, she is no longer immortal and will die when she becomes old."
Henry looked disgusted and turned to his now aging wife and 'dead' daughter and he cried.
The Hamilton family mourned the loss of Melanie and she was put in a coffin and was placed in the family memorial. There was a board hung with the year and date which was March 10th.
