Bucky didn't know he had a sister. At least he didn't remember having one. But technically you had become his sister after his death. You had been adopted years after his death, his parents had been around 75 then and had finally found someone willing to give them a child. They died 15 years later around the age of 90. He would have been 50 something and you were sixteen. Unfortunately your mother had died during child birth so you had lived with your aunt until 2 years ago. You hadn't even known about Bucky until he had shown up again and you only knew him as the Winter Soldier. You looked like him, dark brown hair, blue eyes. If it was possible for an adopted child to look like their non- biological brother. At least that's what's your aunt had told you after you asked why she was crying after seeing a news report about him. At first you had been shocked at hearing you had a brother, especially because your parents never talked about him, but now you were just curious.
You had heard that he joined the Avengers and took a cab from Maine down to New York to meet him. After checking in as a visitor you take the elevator up to the 44th floor and step out. The 44th floor is huge, Windows stretch across one wall down from the ceiling. If you squint down the hallway you can almost see the end but not quite. The slip of paper that the front desk gave you says 7d, 44th floor. You walk down the hallway until you find it. You knock on the door and stuff your hands inside the pockets of your Giants sweatshirt. The door is opened by Natasha Romanaff who smiles at you.
"Hi, can I help you?" You open your mouth to speak but no words come out. You try again this time saying,
"I'm Y/N, I'm uh, here to see Bucky." Natasha opens the door and gestures for you to come in. The room is just as big as outside and it takes you a second to get your bearings. Once you have recovered you see Steve Rogers, Clint Barton, and Bucky Barnes sitting around a coffee table playing poker.
"Boys, we have a visitor." All three men look up at you. When Bucky looks up you can see his eyes and your breath catches. They're almost the same color as yours.
"So, uh how can we help you?" Clint asks putting three poker chips in the pile. You shake your head and take your hands out of your pocket.
"I...uh, well. My, er, our aunt wanted me to give this to you Bucky." You hand him a crumpled up family picture of him and your parents. Bucky takes it and looks at you again. He scowls at the picture almost as if he's trying to figure out who these people are.
"How did you get this?" He asks gruffly
"Umm, well your aunt gave it to me."
"My aunt? How do you know her?"
"Uhh...well she's my aunt too." An awkward silence settles as everyone stares at you.
"Then you'd have to be my sister." You scuff your feet on the ground and look down.
"That would be correct."
"How?" He eyes Steve and Clint. "Maybe we should talk about this in private." You nod and follow him into the hall.
"Ok. Where did you really get this?" He demands gripping the picture tightly. Glaring deeply at you he shoves it in my pocket.
"In a drawer in my house in my room that used to be your room because after you died your parents adopted me and then they died so I went to live with your mom's younger sister and then I found out you weren't dead and then I came here because our aunt is literally about to die because then I'd have to go to a foster home and I'm 22 years old!" You say talking so fast you can barely tell what your saying. Bucky looks stunned and you are out of breath."Besides you wouldn't know me, you were 50 years dead when I was adopted." Bucky crosses his arms and frowns in concentration.
"But you look like me." You nod and he continues."And your 22. My parents adopted you when they were 70?" You nod again. "What's your name?"
"Y/N.""Pretty."
"Thanks."
"Have you ever met your real parents?"
"No my dad's long gone and my mom died. She was 18."
"Oh."
"Yea, do you miss your parents?""A lot. At least I have Steve." You talk for a bit before going back inside.
"So. What's going on here? I've never seen this girl before." Clint says eyeing you cautiously.
"This is my adopted sister, Y/N." Bucky replies gesturing to you. Steve chokes on his water.
"Excuse me? You realize she's like 20 right? That's impossible." You laugh and tell him it's a long story but Steve had insisted so you spent the rest of the day with your brother explaining how you were related after all this time to an expert archer and 96 year old super soldier.
