James POV.
I walked away from Connor and the children. I walked past the bag Lilly had thrown on the floor and picked it up and took it with me. I knew where Lilly would be.
"Hey Lilly." I said she was sat on the top of the tour bus.
"Hi James." She said
"You okay sweet heart?" I said sitting next to her
"No." She said
"Talk to me sweet." I said
She laid down and put her head in my lap.
"I don't like her James." Lilly said
"Who Alice?" I said
"Yeah. Dads mum." Lilly said
"I always found she was a pleasant woman." I said
Lilly glared at me.
"Sorry." I said
"She thinks so highly of herself. She's always got an opinion on everything." Lilly said
"That's mothers for you." I said
"My mum's not like that." Lilly said
"This is true." I said smiling
"Nor is your mum." Lilly said
"Mums mum is not." Lilly said"Okay Lill. I get the picture." I said Lilly laughed
"I don't understand why she doesn't like Jessie and grace. They're amazing." Lilly said
"She was brought up in a different time to me and you Lilly." I said
"What time?" Lilly said she was now lying on her back looking up at me.
"When blacks were still pushed out. When being gay was considered a sin. Do I need to go on?" I said
"What do you mean?" Lilly said she looked confused
"Okay put it this way. You've met my best friend Edward right?" I said
"Yeah." Lilly said
"He's black so are his parent and his parents parents. Back when Connors mum was born and his grandma was around people like Edward and his family would have been put doing slave work. They even had different buses for black people and different water fountains." I said
"That's horrible." Lilly said
"That was life back then." I said
"What about the gays" Lilly said she looked really interested to find out more
"Well easy way to say it is. Brad and Sid yeah?" I said
"Yeah." Lilly said
"They would have been either thrown in jail or would have be tortured." I said
"That's wrong." Lilly said
"Like I said Lill. That was life back then." I said
"But what does gays and black have to do with Jessie and grace being adopted?" Lilly asked
"Being adopt was also considered a sin. More to the point they didn't have adoption back then. They didn't have all the child safety laws we have now." I said
"There laws for our safety?" Lilly said
"Yeah." I said
"What are they?" Lilly asked
"Your mum is the best person to ask that one Lilly." I said
"Okay." Lilly said
"Come on Lilly. It's not all bad, things have changed so much since then." I said
