I stare at Naomi as we wait at a stoplight. Her hand warms up mine even if it's not her hand directly. The sight of her in my hoodie makes my heart beat too fast for my own health. I notice a bus coming, a bus that can take us straight to Ryan's neighborhood.
God, Ryan was really beautiful right? Is Naomi really better?
Yes! Yes! Yes, she is! Naomi is way prettier than all the Ryans in the world!
"Naomi, quick." I tighten my grip on her hand and run with her to the bus stop. The bus stops and I take Naomi inside with me. I quickly pay the driver and we scramble to the back of the empty bus. "Sorry, I don't want your feet to hurt."
"Thanks, Levitt." She smiles at me, fiddling with the sleeves of my hoodie.
"Your welcome." I smile back.
"How long will this take?" She asks, looking up at me.
"About five minutes."
"Good, do you have a pen? Oh, wait...found one!" She pulls out a black felt tip pen from my pocket and grabs the box of condoms. She scribbles something on it.
"What did you write?" I lean over, smiling.
"Where are you two lovebirds stopping?" The bus driver calls out to us.
"Hoavi Street, ma'am!" I call back, giving her a thumbs up.
"Alright then."
I turn my attention back to Naomi who is smiling at me. "Oh, um." She stammers, blushing. "I, uh, wrote, 'have fun with Andy, female dog! yours truly, a cat person.' I know it's stupid, but I've been wanting to tell her-"
I press my pointer finger to her lips and shake my head. "It's perfect."
Like you.
"Oh, um, thanks." She smiles.
"Alright kids! Your stop is up!" The lady calls over to us. "A bus for going back will be there in ten minutes on the other side of the street. Have fun with whatever you guys are doing."
"Thank you!" Naomi yells, literally jumping out of the bus.
"Good luck, boy." She nods.
"I'll need it." I chuckle, following Naomi. "Ruth! Wait for me!"
Naomi turns around quickly, smiling widely. "Which one is here home?"
"The big, beige one." I take Naomi's hand and start running towards it. We stop in front of it. "This is your wish, you go do it."
"Thanks, Levitt." She runs toward the house and my vision blurs to everything but her.
It's disgusting how in love with her you are.
She rings the doorbell and drops the items at the doormat. She quickly sprints towards me and grins. "I did it." She whispers, hugging me tightly.
"You sure did." I whisper back, picking her up and walking towards the bus stop. "What's the reason behind you hating her anyways?"
Her arms loosen around my neck as she frowns. "She's been a complete bitch to me for no apparent reason since sixth grade. I mean, I get that a lot of people don't like me, but I'm just really confused by her. We were really nice to each other for a while too. I just don't get it."
"What can we do? Not everyone is gonna like us." I lay Naomi down on the bench at the stop. She sits up straight and I take a seat next to her.
"That's easy for you to say, the only people that hate you are your ex girlfriends, that's not even all of them."
"There's always one person that destroys you when they hate you, even if it's only for a little bit." I sigh. "For you, it was Ryan."
"No one hates you, Eric."
"You did." I look down. "You were the one that destroyed me a little."
