Torrent finally woke. Her eyes stared at the ceiling before she slowly turned her head and saw nobody around her. She sighed and looked back at the ceiling.
She closed her eyes and remembered the day she found out that someone loved the man she believed as her soul mate. She found out, too, that he was in love with someone, but never said who.
Torrent opened her eyes again.
Justin stood there, a single rose in his hands. He pulled up a chair and settled down, placing the rose at her side. "How are you feeling?"
"Lonely."
Justin smiled and touched her hand.
Torrent realized what was happening then. She sat up and looked at Justin who confirmed it.
Just as she was leaving, she found the other Deathscythes standing outside the ward. Torrent stared and, when they didn't speak up, she turned and walked away, towards the Death Room.
Spirit ran ahead of her. "We need you to bring Marie into this fight."
Torrent lifted a hand and shoved Spirit aside. "Don't care." She kept walking. Without Justin she knew the link would be hard to maintain. She would be learning on the fly during combat.
She threw the doors open to the Death Room and scurried up the path. Torrent stood in the shadows as she listened to them.
"Once Torrent's awake, we'll inform her of the change. In the meantime, Stein, I need you to mentally and physically prepare the students for this upcoming fight. They're our last defense for myself."
Torrent realized he knew, but decided she was hiding for a reason.
Stein raised his hand. "What should we do if she decides she can't handle Maria? We don't even know if that will effect her magic. We don't even realize what creates her magic."
Torrent's head snapped up, her eyes wide. They never knew about how her magic works. If they were trying to cleanse her, Maria was the best way to do it. However, that was also the best way to wipe out the use of madness between her and Stein.
Giriko's familiar hand touched her shoulder and her head whipped around. Quietly, he said; "I know. It hurts me as well. I thrive on the crazy, but they want us to be much less tainted."
Torrent looked ahead, her face becoming stone again. "My magic draws off of others madness. Without it, all my old skills must be replaced by other skills I haven't used in years."
Giriko looked ahead, slowly removing his hand. "I wonder why they want us clean." He shrugged. "Time to find out."
He walked in, followed by the Death Scythes. Torrent slowly walked into the light, being sure to hide her face as she felt disappointed.
"Oh!" Stein shot to his feet and froze. He saw Marie step between them. He blinked and realized his heart was still again.
Torrent raised her head and stared death right in the face as she spoke up. "I don't approve of Marie. My years of training were for swords despite my soul being linked to guillotines. I'm going to be going in blind."
"Why not use Giriko and I go with Stein?" Marie asked.
Torrent closed her eyes. "I don't want to do anything of the sort. If Death wishes, I'll do it. I don't understand why he wants you to have me put everyone in danger." She gave Death a mean stare before she turned and crossed her arms. She started walking. When her first foot touched the first step, she spoke again. "I want you all to know that a man I loved is why I'm doing this, otherwise, you can all suck up and kiss me goodbye."
She vanished around the corner and Giriko looked at the others. "I hope you know what you're doing."
He was walking by when he heard Azusa whisper something to Spirit, who clearly agreed.
"She's a bit of a twat, but that's what happens whn you get left behind."
