We sit in silence for five minutes. We don't look at each other. We don't interact at all.
The bus finally comes and we both stand up and board the bus, we go to the back of the, once again, empty bus after paying. Eric looks over at me. "Naomi, I-"
"Don't you dare apologize." I chuckle. "It-it's fine."
"You don't sound fine." Eric frowns.
"Let's forget about it." I take a deep breath in, smiling at him. "Poof, it's gone."
"Okay." He smiles back at me. "So, what's the next wish?"
"It's really simple... and really short." I confess. My eyes land on a Donut Shop with an open sign and I yank on the "Stop Requested" cord. "We're getting off."
"Where-what-fine." Eric sighs, running after me.
We thank the driver and run out into the bitter cold of the street. Not a single sound can be heard and the only lights come from the lampposts. Oh, and the donut place were going to. "I've wanted to go get a donut at midnight since I was in fourth grade. Don't ask why."
"Am I allowed to get a coffee as well?" Eric chuckles.
"Sure." I smile, opening the door for us.
"Welcome to Darrel's Donuts! How may I help you?" A guy behind the counter asks. He looks no older than sixteen.
"Two donuts please." I smile at "Fred", or at least, that's what his name-tag says.
"No problem." He flashes a grin at me, pulling out two glazed donuts from the glass display. Eric quickly grabs our donuts and pays. "So what are you two out doing this late? Forbidden romance?"
"Oh, we aren't dating." I straighten up, taking a bite.
You wish.
"Yeah, we aren't." Eric mutters under his breath.
"Siblings?"
"Definitely not." I laugh, looking over at Eric. "It's just some stupid thing. I have this wish list and we're knocking off all of them."
"That doesn't sound stupid." Fred chuckles, keeping his eyes on me. "Would you like some coffee? On the house."
"Didn't you want some coffee?" I ask Eric, smiling.
"Yeah, if I could have some please." Eric smiles bitterly at Fred.
"No problem-o. Anything for someone accompanying someone as pretty as a peach. I never got your name, by the way."
"Naomi," I smile.
"Like from the Bible?" Fred asks.
"Yeah, that's what my dad wanted." I look down, staring at my empty tray.
"Oh, is this a shaky topic for you?"
If a family death is a "shaky topic", then yes.
Eric's really mad, look at him.
I mean, really red!
I look over at Eric, frowning. "We should leave. Thank you." I grab Eric's coffee in one hand and take his in another. Eric's face goes even redder and even more confused.
"Why did you leave?" Eric asks as we start walking towards our park. "I mean, thanks for the coffee."
"How did I get you the coffee?"
