Nobody. Thats who I am. Even when I could speak I wasn't very popular. Back at my old high school, up in Cleveland Ohio, I was bullied relentlessly. I was thrown into lockers, my glasses broken, I was beaten and got my head shoved down toilets. Why? Because I was a fat little kid with glasses and I was a major band geek, oh and not to mention I'm gay. But my story begins one day after school. I was waiting with my two best friends, Jason and Payton, for our bus when Henry, captain of the football team, came up to me and my friends. Before we knew what was happening Henry's lackies grabbed Payton and Jason and shoved them up against the chain lank fence that ran behind the bus area. "Mitch run!" Jason screamed at me. I turned to run but Henry grabbed the back of my shirt and threw me backwards onto the ground.
"Where you goin' fag?" Henry spat in my face leaning over me.
"You see that big yellow thing over there, that those other kids are getting on? Those are called buses. Buses take the people to their homes after the school day ends, so where do you think I'm going?" I spit back.
"Hell."
I glared at him and he glared back.
"Hey! What in the world do you think you're doing?! Get off of them!" Ms. Daniels yells from across the ramp shuffling toward us.
Ms. Daniels was a rather plump older lady with bifocals just as thick. She had a mean mug that could scare the Devil himself, but her kind eyes always gave her away.
"Looks like you're lucky day."
Henry stands up straight but not before roughly patting my cheek. He motions for his friends and stalks away, probably in search of more victims.
Jason extends his hand and helps pull me to my feet.
"You okay?" Jason asks. I fake a smile in response. I know he can see right through it but he doesn't say anything. I am grateful.
"Where's Payton?" I ask Jason, looking around.
"Talking to Ms. Daniels." Jason says motioning in their direction.
"Come on, we're going to miss the bus." We gather our things and board the bus.
Who knew this was the last time we'd ever be together on a bus again?
