I brought Delilah to the house in hope I could find Lucia here but with no luck. But the blankets we last used were here covered in dust and insects and chilled from the cool air.
"So is this a hideout we are in?" Delilah asked from the front door where I left her.
"More like an abandoned neighborhood." I loudly spoke back.
"The entire neighborhood, abandoned?"
"Yep, they all left due to a murderer that used to live around here."
"Oh and that was you?" She asked with a slight chuckle.
"Nope it was someone else just as crazy or hell I'd hate to say even crazier." I chuckled back. My loud footsteps echoed through the house making Delilah face in my direction.
"What are we doing here?" She asked reaching out.
"I was looking for someone here but it appears she has moved on." I allowed her to grab my shoulder and led her through the house.
"So who is this "she" you're talking about?"
"Her name is Lucia and she is my girlfriend." I answered bluntly.
" Awww you have a girlfriend, that's so cute." Her smile widened and she bounced around in a circle.
"Stop being weird." I scoffed.
"Do you hear that?" Delilah asked me listening to something intently.
"Hear what?" I asked curiously.
"There are a few cars coming this way."
I looked outside the front window and there they were, four police cars in line pulling towards us. They came to a slow stop and one familiar face I noticed was the detective.
"Spread and check every inch of this place." He shouted to the other officers. I grabbed Delilah by the wrist and led her towards the cellar that I was renovating before my death.
"What's going on?" Delilah asked worried.
"Uhm well its the cops looking for me." I explained hastily.
"What do we do?"
"Don't worry I'll take care of them you just stay here." I went back up stairs and closed the door. I stopped and listened and could hear the crunching of leaves outside of the window leading to the back yard. I quickly rushed to a hiding spot next to the back door and waited. The doorknob turned slowly and the door popped open slowly letting in a gust of air. I waited and waited for someone but no one came.
"Maybe they are afraid?" I asked myself with an uneasy feeling. I walked out revealing myself to the open doorway but no one was there. I poked my head outside the door and searched to see two bodies lying on the ground about three feet away.
"Who's there?" I asked in a moderate tone trying to keep quiet enough to not alarm the other police officers. I checked the bodies and discovered that their throats were cut open. I looked around for any signs and spotted a very large and obvious blood splatter on the side of the house. I smiled thinking of the convenience of this, I didn't have to get my hands dirty. I snuck back inside and scanned the area out front, there were two officers sitting by their cars and the rest must have been searching the other houses. I opened the front catching their attention and then stood in the door way with my knife.
"Do not move!" One shouted as they drew their guns. I walked inside taunting them with a chuckle and quickly hid in a closer in another room.
"This is Rodney and Balfes we have spotted an armed and suspicious character inside the middle far side, blue house, yellow mailbox." I listened to the officers call on their walkie talkies and step inside the house with loud and echoed footsteps. I opened a hatch in the ceiling and crawled up leaving the closet to appear empty. The closet door was forcefully pulled open shedding light inside.
"Clear."
I smirked and waited for the door to close and then hung down to open it again before retreating back into the hatch. The man flung the door open again and shined his flashlight inside searching around his flashlight shined towards my hiding spot and could see his hand reach I prepared myself gripping my knife eager to kill.
"Progress report Rodney."
"Oh uh it seems to be clear suspicious character seemed to have moved on." I heard his footsteps echo through a further point in the house.
"This door is locked Rodney."
"That's strange none of the doors are supposed to be locked and can only lock from the outside." A hint of panic struck my nerves and I quickly jumped out of the hatch causing a loud thud. I heard them draw their weapons and quickly make their way towards my area. With a chuckle I scraped my knife against the door and waited for the results but realised how dumb the idea was. They opened the door and were immediately ready for me with weapons drawn. One was about to speak until a knife drove through his neck surprising the other officer into pure shock. I seized the moment and drove my knife straight through the officers neck. Blood splattered out of his wound and his mouth as he choked on his own blood. I walked out and studied the knife plunged into the corpses neck.
"What do we have here." A familiar gruff voice spoke causing rage to instantly build in me. I turned to the same nightmarish face as that night and pulled his knife out dual wielding blades. He looked drawn back and confused as he stared at me.
"I feel like I know you." Was all he muttered.
"You should you basterd!" I charged and swung the blades for his neck but he dodged away and pulled his own knife out.
"I always carry an extra." He stood ready and smiled wider than he usually does. I charged straight at him cutting through the air landing a few hits on his arms and sometimes a lucky cut to his stomach. He kicked me in the face staggering me back and tackled me but I rolled and ended up having the advantage.
"Wait a minute. I know you." He stared closely at me and held me back as I tried to stab him.
"I killed you already. How are you alive?" He asked maliciously. I headbutt him in the nose and jumped to my feet ready for him. He chuckled to himself and slowly made his way to his feet.
"Listen grave boy I would sit here and play with you all day but I have to go kill a few more people before I fall asleep tonight." He slid his knife in his pocket and ran into another room jumping out of an open window and into the woods. I tried to chase him but lost him as soon as he hit the treeline.
"Damnit!" I cursed to myself taking a deep breath.
"Did you get him?" Delilah asked behind me.
"No the basterd got away." I punched the wall out of stress and anger making a fist sized hole. Suddenly the door slammed open and officers with guns came rushing in out of quick thinking I grabbed Delilah and pulled a knife holding it to her throat.
"Put the weapon down!" The chief yelled at me.
"Or maybe you put yours down that's how the hostage game works." He stared daggers into me as he slowly put his gun to the floor.
"Now leave." He stepped back and stepped out side the door moving towards a couple of other officers. I chuckled and pulled Delilah to me lifting her onto my back and ran out the back door into the woods.
"I can't believe they would fall for that stupid shit." I laughed as I trudged through the trees.
"I thought you were actually gonna kill me."
"I would've if I had to." Delilah caught her breath and tensed up.
"You would kill me?" She asked softly.
"Of course not idiot, why would I save you to kill you." I deadpanned. She gave a bright smile and hugged me tighter.
"Thank you." She let go and I could feel her lean back and where I thought she was enjoying nature I realised I was wrong. She slapped me in the back of the head with an angry huff.
"Don't call me an idiot." She growled. I laughed and took in a deep breath.
"Isn't it a lovely day." I listened to the sound of dogs and various different voices behind us and I knew Delilah could hear them too.
"Let's get this chase started then." I chucked and made her giggle.
