"Simone, get your butt down here and answer the door!!" My father yelled.

I ran downstairs past my father, who was sitting on the couch. When I opened the door my heart stopped.

"Hi. My name is Ace Tyeson, I just move next door." He said.

"Hi. My name is Simone. Nice to meet you." I said closing the door.

I took a good look at him. He was dark skin, had short black hair, and the most beautiful brown eyes. He was wearing a green button down with white skinny jeans and black Allstars.

I smiled when I saw him checking me out. I was wearing my favorite blue halter top with a black belt around my waist, a short white skirt, and blue sandles. my hair was curled and flowing down my back.

"Where are you from?" I asked.

"Houston, Texas ma'am." He drawled.

It was then that I noticed his southern drawl.

"It's nice to meet another southerner. I'm from Baton Rouge, Louisiana." I said letting my accent slip.

"Your accent is adorable." He said chuckling slightly.

I blushed and ducked my head. "Thank you. So is yours."

He laughed. "Thank you."

"Are you going to attend Samson High?" I asked.

"Yeah. I'll be a Senior when school starts." He told me.

"Me to. Maybe we'll have classes together."

"It would be nice to have classes with someone I know. We can get to know each other more." He smiled softly.

"Yeah, it would. I've only been here since the end of May, so I don't really know anyone yet."

"At least I won't be the only new kid." He said chuckling.

"Ace. It's time to come home sweetie." A soft voice said behind him.

I looked behind him to see a woman who looked to be in her mid-thirties wearing a lovely blue dress and had curly hair and grey eyes.

"Hey mom. I'll be home in just a minute." Ace said.

"Oh. Who's this?" His mom asked with a slight drawl.

"This is Simone Jackson. She's a Senior like me. Simone this is my mom, bg Annette." He introduced us.

"It's nice to you ma'am." I said drawled as well.

"You to dear. Would you like to come over for dinner?" She asked.

"Sure. I'd love to, just let me ask my dad and I'll get back to you." I replied.

"Okay then. See you soon." She said walking back to her house.

"Here's my cell number. Call me if you can come over, okay?" He took my phone and typed his number into my contacts.

"Sure." I said grabbing my phone from him.

He lifted my left hand to his lips and kissed the back of it. "See you soon beautiful." He whispered into my ear causing me to shiver.

Then he turned around and went home.

I went into the house to see dad still passed out on the couch. I got on my knees beside him and shook his arm.

"Dad." I said.

No answer.

"Dad."

Still no answer.

I got up and checked his pulse only to find out it was very slow.

"Dad? Daddy wake up." I said dialing 911.

I felt tears streaming down my face as I explained everything to the operator. She told me to stay on the line until the police arrived.

"Dad please wake up. Please." I begged.

A minute later I heard sirens coming down the street and ran to the door. When I opened the door an ambulance, two fire trucks, and five police cars were parked in front of my house. I move to the side as the paramedics ran in with a gurney. I walked outside and saw Ace and his mom being held back by police.

"Ace." I called out.

He looked at me and pointed. The officer turned around and I mouthed 'it was okay'. He let them through, and they ran straight towards me.

"What happened?" Ace asked.

"My father's heartbeat was slowing. He wouldn't wake up even when I yelled at him." I croaked.

Ace wrapped his arms around me as more tears came. I felt his mom stroke my hair. Then the paramedics came out rushing my father to the ambulance truck.

"Is my dad going to be alright?" I asked a paramedic.

"I don't know sweetheart. But we're going to do our best to save him." He said. "Do you have anywhere to stay tonight?"

"She can stay with us." Ace's mom offered with no hesitation.

"Where's your mother?" the officer asked with a raised eyebrow.

"She died a few months ago." I answered.

The officer took off his hat and bowed his head. "I'm sorry for your loss. I'll be back tomorrow to check on you."

"Okay. Thank you." I said smiling.

He tilted his hat and left. I turned to face Ace and his mom and froze.

Then everything went black.
