Chapter 01- Promises
"Destinee you should totally audition you will knock those other girls out the water no doubt!" My best friend of four years, Mercedes Taylor beamed as we both sat in her Huntington Beach California apartment living room enjoying our Strawberry Daiquiris, watching the last season of the Laker girl auditions, and having our usual girl talks. I looked at her as though she had four eyes instead of two.
"I will pass girl. I got better things to do with my life than shake my ass on television." I retorted as I reached for my wine glass and tossed back a swig before putting it back on the coffee table and staring at the television again.
"They aren't shaking their asses they are cheering and dancing they are cheerleaders Destinee" She corrected me before continuing, "besides you were and probably still are better than these girls auditioning. We threw it down in college" She added as she rested her head on the back of the couch and proceeded to watch the auditioning process intensely.
Mercedes words began sinking in as I sat dazed into my own thoughts. Maybe auditioning would be a great idea it would surely provide a better life for my daughter Armani and I. If anyone deserved a better life it would be her. Time feels as though it goes by on full speed I'm already twenty four years old working part time at Prestige Boutique to maintain a comfortable life for Armani and I. I had Armani at twenty-one by a guy who has surprisingly stuck by our side from the jump. He attends all her doctor visits, buys her necessities, takes her out, and even gives me money on the side to help keep a roof over our head. I love my life, but something better would definitely be worth a shot as well.
"Earth to Destinee!" Mercedes exclaimed while waving her hand in front of my face with a goofy childish grin. Clearly knocking myself out of my daze.
"You are too old to be acting like Armani." I said with a smirk as she faked being hurt by my comment and we both busted out in fits of laughter.
"You right you right! Girl guess what I heard though?" She finally responded as she turned her body in my direction ready to spill every ounce of gossip she heard. I guess some things will never change with this girl.
"What did you hear?" I asked interested in every word she was about to say. I loved hearing about the latest gossip, but am never to spread any rumors of any sorts. I'm the cool, calm, and collected out of most people I associate and hang out with.
"Your baby daddy has a new girl he has been kicking it with." She quickly let out and I looked back at her with pure anger which soon after was replaced with a pang of hurt.
"Seriously? Who is she cause Armani been hanging out with her dad a lot lately too. I don't want some random female around my daughter without my approval." I said through gritted teeth as I pressed Mercedes for more information on this mystery girl.
"I heard her name is Malaysia. I don't know her though maybe you can ask Darren about who she is?" Mercedes suggested as she downed the last sip of her daiquiri. I quickly did the same and headed to the kitchen counter to grab the bottle of Malibu Rum and poured a full glass and downed the glass while still standing by the kitchen counter. I wanted to dull the intense pain in my heart. If this was what Darren meant by being able to experience life I didn't like it one bit. I haven't been able to live for me since Armani's birth, but he could obviously. Mercedes quickly came up to my side to comfort me and watch over me .
