Haliow

Haliow woke to the sound of moaning. Before he could register who exactly it was, he stared up at the sky. It somehow seemed off, as if red had somehow tainted the once beautiful blue sky. It seemed to be taunting him, saying, You don't remember anything else other from today, and you go off trying to murder someone?

He knew it wasn't his fault. All that happened wasn't him - it was almost as though someone was controlling him. Anxiety rose up with all of the stress, and he finally sat up, not being able to take it laying down anymore. Something dripped onto the ground from his face. Alarm took over. It was blood.

Another moan. Haliow turned slightly to see a huddled shape, the shape trembling with the full force of an elephant. From what he could see from his angle, the boy had a red animal hoodie, and red Adidas clothing. With the hoodie and his shaggy brown hair together, Haliow had trouble trying to decipher the colour of his eyes, and it disturbed him greatly. He started shivering himself, so he couldn't blame the boy. Then, the memory of how the boy got there in the first place resurfaced.

He bit him. He drained his blood completely. Yet, the boy still survived. He had become the exact same thing as Haliow.

Haliow waited a bit longer. Already, a craving had settled in. No, it was always there. It must be ten times worse for him, whoever it is, Haliow thought, remembering the time he first woke up.

The figure finally summoned the strength to move. Haliow watched as his pale arms moved underneath him. "You."

Haliow shifted back uncomfortably. He was definitely taken aback. Again, instinct told him that the creature should be grateful that he had become what he had become. The other option had been death. He didn't know how he knew that, but he did.

Haliow finally found his voice. "You sound as if you knew me from before." Haliow had two motives with saying this. One, he genuinely wondered if the boy did. He definitely felt familiar. Two, if the boy had amnesia as well, Haliow would know. The boy's gaze sharpened.

"That's not what I meant. But if you don't have any memories either..." The boy trailed off, remembering something. He glanced away. "I... I killed her."

So he obviously had time before Haliow woke up to discover his own... Abilities. Haliow's memory stretched back to the girl that had accompanied the boy. She was definitely pretty, his memory told him, and that was what made the hunger suddenly go ten times stronger than it was before. How the boy managed to stay alive, Haliow didn't know, but it was meant to happen, even if Haliow didn't understand it. Infecting the boy did not stem off his initial hunger.

He wondered when the boy had time to go off and did what he did. A sick feeling washed over him.

"My name is Haliow," he said, standing up and offering the boy his hand. The boy's hoodie still hid his eyes, so Haliow couldn't gauge his reaction.

Surprisingly, the boy took it. "My... My name is Jake," he muttered, a new energy in his words. Then he took a deep breath. "Whoever placed us here, they're going to pay. The fastest way to get back at them?" Jake paused, but it seemed obvious he wasn't expecting an answer, but Haliow had a feeling he knew where this was going. He didn't like it.

"Kill everyone we see," Haliow whispered, dropping Jake's hand when he stood up. Jake nodded silently, both wondering how it seemed that was the only way.
