I was in my room staring at my ceiling while laying on my bed. I was listening to one of my favorite bands, Disturbed. The songs shuffled though as the music blasted through my room. I didn't hear my door knock and when my mom opened my door, I looked over at her. I grabbed my radio player remote and clicked the pause button and spoke, "yeah mom?"
Her dark eyes bore into mine and she asked if she can come in, and I allowed. She sat on my bed and begun. " You remember how last week your dad told you he was probably going to be moved to another location for work right?" I slowly nodded. Crap, were we moving? Please say we aren't I've been having a bad day. I sat up with my hands behind me. "Well he was approved, and we need to be outbid on the way before the start of the new workweek. We are moving Gabby. So let's try to get your clothes into some bags, I'll get some boxes for your things but make piles of things you will want with you, and separate everything else."
My mom got up and walked out of the room I had claimed as my own for the past 17 years of my life. Since I was born I've had this room to myself, and it's changed with all of my phases, a light brown when I was a baby, pink when I was five blue when I was 15 and now a dark gray and light gray set of walls surrounded me. Slowly, I stripped down my walls from their posters, and the drawings and paintings I had done. Once my walls were bare, I pulled my phone out of my pocket and called Kelly up, putting my phone on speaker and tossing it on the bed as it rang. After a few seconds of ringing, it stopped and her voice slurred in.
" H-hello..?"
"Kel, hey what's up, you okay?"
"Yeah, just woke up that's all. You need something?"
"Wait huh?" I quickly turned to my phone and checked the clock, it was almost midnight. "Oh crap, I didn't realize the time. I'll call you back in the morning, kay?"
"Uhm, yeah, okay then. Night."
"Night to you too." I ended the phone call and let out a big sigh and leaned back against the foot of my bed and flopped back, turning my head to the floor. It had some boxes filled with posters and art, some bags of old clothes I didn't need, and other things scattered around. My closet and drawers were a mess and almost spilling out from all the scavenging done for clothes to donate.
Quickly, I got up and changed out of my jeans, and into some loose gray pants that ended at my mid calf. After I turned off my light and slowly made my way back to my bed as my body took its toll and I yawned, flopping onto my bed and curling up under the sheets.
~~~~~ The Morning~~~~~
The light came into my room and shined on my eyes, begging me to open them. I grabbed my phone to see it was 8:07 and went to call Kelly again. Once she answered, I quickly spoke, "Please come over, I need somebody to talk to, and well, help me pack."
I could hear Kelly gasp quietly as I cut to the chase. "Why are you packing things?"
"Just please come over if you can. Like ASAP."
"Okay, I will. See you soon." The call hung up to what presumably was my friend getting ready to bolt over in her car over as fast as possible. I laid in my bed for a few moments and then sat up, and stretched, my messy dark brown hair that was messy from sleep, fell to my shoulders in a messy fashion and then I went to go to the bathroom before my squirrel bladder decided to go for me. I went to the bathroom then left downstairs after brushing my hair.
After a few minutes, of waiting, my front door opened and Kelly appeared through the front door and slammed it. She then grabbed my wrist and dragged me up the stairs to my room and shut my door behind me.
"Okay Gabe, you got a lot of explaining to do. First of all, what the hell happened yesterday? You just ignored us the whole car ride.Second, of all, why is your room pretty much gone now?"
"Well, I caught Jen cheating. She was changing and Zander was naked on her bed smiling at her. So then I flipped out and threw a few painting admittedly, but I just ran back to the car and drove.Then later a while after you guys left. Well-" She looked into my eyes curiosity flooding them. "Kelly, m-my dad got the job, and we are moving."
Her mouth gaped open and she wrapped me in a hug. "Oh my god I'm so sorry, no no no no no, I can't loose you. It's good for your dad but oh my god. Please don't forget about me." She hugged me tighter for a few more seconds and then pulled away and looked me in the eye.
"I won't you've never given me anything to forget."
She looked down at the floor and then stood up. "Guess I should help you pack huh?" She looked extremely uncomfortable but opened my drawers and started pulling out clothes from them and putting them on my bed where we both separated them into piles by season and folded everything. Since it was spring and I didn't really need my heavy clothes for winter, we shoved them into a big trash bag and labeled it winter clothes. We put all my swimsuits into a smaller bag, the kind you get when you go grocery shopping. The whole time we spoke about the past and talked about the good memories we shared and laughed about them. Then after a good hour, we got to packing the big things.
Once we had stripped my room of everything, art supplies, books, clothes art, posters, and all, and had them all separated on the floor in bags and boxes, we sat on my bed. All that was left untouched, was my bad my dresser sat empty, my nightstand had my lamp, and my bookshelf sat next to my easel and guitar in its stand.
After a while, we played Cards Against Humanity on our phones, when she got a call. After she hung up she spoke, "Hey Gabe, I gotta go okay? Have fun wherever your moving. Make some good memories, stay in contact." I walked her to the door and once it was open she turned around and looked me in the eye."Just remember I won't forget you." She spoke nervously and before I could even process what she said, her lips were on mine and she kissed me.
Without realizing it I kissed her back and had my arms around her small body. We kissed a bit longer, and then she pulled out of my arms turned around and walked away to her car. My body went numb and I couldn't get myself to move after my best friend. I was in too much shock. Did she really just kiss me? And did I seriously kiss her back? She then drove off as my eyes began to brim with tears, knowing that I wouldn't be seeing her that much anymore, and fell to my knees along with my tears and sobbed for what seemed like forever, till my mom pulled up in the driveway. She looked at me and got out.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"Kelly kissed me, mom." She looked at me with shock. "Then she just left like nothing happened."
"Oh my goodness! Honey, I'm so sorry." She picked me up into a hug. At least she knew I liked her.
