The air had become stiff and heavy. So many thoughts and words left unsaid hung in the thick musty air between me and Luke. He looked uncomfortable, his blue eyes seemed sad and his usually stiff posture indicated that he was on edge. Luke had the answers I needed and I wasn't known to back down from a fight, but the pleading look that Luke was giving me made me feel as if I had kicked a small puppy. "Ok" Lucas sighs pushing his hand trough his hair sensing that I wasn't going to back down "where do I even start? I was..." he pauses almost trying to think of what to say "on my typical afternoon walk when I decided to cut through the woods. I'm not sure why I decided this, I guess I needed a change of scenery. I had a lot on my mind that day and I ended getting lost. I walked around aimlessly for awhile until I stumbled upon this log cabin. I went to ask for directions when I heard someone scream from inside. I tried to tell myself that someone must of saw a bug or something but in the back of my mind I knew that it was something more. It wasn't just the type of scream that you let out when you stub your toe or see a bug. It was the type where you're fearing for your life."
Luke meets my gaze for the first time since he started recounting what happened. In that moment I knew that he suspected what was going on all along, he knew someone was in danger. I could tell that the moments afterwards haunted him almost as much as it haunted me. The room started to spin and blur and my chest tightened. All of a sudden I felt like I was underwater and I was drowning. Then everything went black.
He came at me again with his fist nailing me in the side and then a another direct to my jaw. Pain erupted in my side and jaw and another scream bubbled in my throat treating to come out.
"Hey don't be so rough on her" one of the attackers said "we don't want her dead." I whimpered in fear 'what are they going to do to me?' Fear paralyzed me, enabling me to run to safety like I did last time. By body ached from the beating I had just received and I prayed for it to all be over. I was ready, I was ready to give up. To embrace the cold nothingness of death like an old friend. I wasn't scared anymore because anything was better than the tortured I've endured. This was my hell and my body couldn't take no more. I pulled myself towards the wall of the log cabin and propped my self against the wall, straitening my back and opening my lungs so I could breath. I pressed my fingers to my ribs and hissed immediately from the pain, no doubt suffering from multiple broken bones. I touched my forehead where he had attempted to bash my brains in. My fingers instantly becoming wet from the blood running now my face. I wiped it out of my eyes and tried to steady my vison on the two men before me. They had been fighting a lot more the past few weeks, something had changed ever since the third guy left.
"Yeah but if we don't do anything she won't listen, we need to get our point across" the two men whispered back in forth until one who seemed to be in charge turned to me. I pressed my back further into the mall, the cool wood contrasting from the heat radiating from my body.
"Now you'll do as we say, are we clear?" he ordered me in a menacing tone. I quickly nod my head out of fear of another beating as he reaches behind him and pulls a roll of duck tape off the near by table. He then rips off a piece and secures it over my mouth , the rough sticky texture irritating my split lip. Breathing now becomes difficult as my nose has been slightly clogged with blood. I begin to focus on breathing and staying calm because the minute I start to hyperventilate is when I suffocate myself. "There that should keep you quiet" he smirks before turning away from me and busying himself with something on the other side of the room. I wish I could get a look at their faces but for the terrifying masks they wear over their faces enabled me.
"Now lets-" one of the men begin to say before someone barges into the small cabin. This stranger scans the room and upon seeing me charges at the two men without a second of thought as if something took over his body and possessed him to protect me even though I am a complete stranger. I took this as my chance and grabbed a screw that had been laying on the floor next to wear I had been sat and started cutting away at the duck tape bonding my hands. I heard one of the men yell to the other to not let me escape but I had already freed my hands a ripped the duck tape off of my mouth. The one in charge grab the baseball bat that was by the door and swung it at the mystery guys head.
