Just a snippet of a story I'm in the middle of.. It does start like, smack bang in the middle, but eh. gtf over it :P.
What happened with Ryan.
I walked through the ice cold hall, pieces of shattered glass, crunching beneath my feet. Rain blew in through the broken window panes along with scattered leaves. The thunder and lightning from outside was increasing, along with my fear. Looking through the dimmed, none-broken windows of the classrooms inside the hallway, I saw classroom after classroom of scattered chairs, desks and the occasional blood splatter. As I turned the corner, the noise from the storm fell quiet. It was suddenly silent inside the building. It was very dark, and I traced my hands along the wall to tell me where an exit was. My leg hurt, and my head was still bleeding from the blow I took from the chair Jarred had thrown at me.
As I reached the stairs I heard a small gurgle-like sound, and then I stopped dead. In front of me, lying on the stairs was one of the school’s caretakers. It was hard to see, because the lights in the room were broken, and flickering. His chest seemed to have multiple stab wounds and his neck was bleeding heavily. After a muffled choke, he lay still, not moving. I was in shock and it took me a good 2 minutes to realise he was actually dead. After a few silent sobs, I moved up the stairs, and turned the corner. I soon found myself at the entrance of the school gymnasium. There was hardly any light in here, apart from the constant crack of lightening and a few busted light bulbs. I squinted around the massive hall and saw a rope hanging from the ceiling. The end of the rope seemed to be twisted, and I soon realised something was hanging from it. I gasped and clamped a hand over my mouth; too see what looked like a person, hanging from the neck. There was a large crack of lightening, and I then-to my own relief- realised it was one of the boxing dummies, used for our self-defence classes. I moved towards the dummy, to examine it closer, and that’s when I heard it. An ice-cold laugh, coming from the door. The hairs on the back of my neck stood on end, and my blood ran cold.
“She's past the first test.” A voice said, echoing throughout the empty mass of room. I suddenly felt a small rush of ice cold air, fly towards me, blowing my hair out of place slightly.
“But will she pass the second?” the voice was a whisper, right in my ear, as I felt hands creep around my upper arms. I swallowed back a scream, and tried to tell my legs to move. I couldn’t. I was frozen in fear. There was another one of those despicably cold chuckles, and the voice had moved away. I finally brang myself to turn around, but I saw nothing but empty room.
Suddenly I felt a cold stabbing pain in my lower back, and I was sent down to the hard wood floor. I choked and sent a hand to the source of pain, pulling a small dagger out of my back. I dropped this to the floor and tried to get up, when what felt like a foot, kick me back down. I gasped for air, as it seemed to be escaping my lungs a lot faster than normal, and I felt my blood trickle down my back, staining my shirt. Another sound of laughter flooded through the room and I felt a hand pull my up by my hair. I screamed and was thrown to my right, hitting the bleachers that were at the back of the room. I pushed myself up, and steadied myself to my feet. Whipping the blood from my face, I said “Who are you? What do you want?”
The voice responded. “Oh, but you know who I am. And I’m betting you know what I want too.” There was the slightest hint of amusement in the man’s voice. Silence rolled out the room and I felt the voice move closer to me again, coming up from behind me this time, and curling it’s fingers around my hair, moving from my neck.
“And you know that I’m not going to stop. Not until you, and your little covenant has been burnt to ashes.” The voice was another whisper, this time it was more icier then the last, and it was packed full of venom.
A lump formed in my throat, and the sweat on my body ran cold.
Ryan.
“Why now. Why now Ryan…?” my voice was trembling, but I tried to make it sound as tough as I could.
He laughed, and began to circle me, his eyes locked on mine.
“Because. Now is the perfect time. In a few hours, there will be an eclipse. And in a few hours, you’re going to be dead. Simple as that.”
He stopped moving when I raised my head to look directly at him.
“You should know better than that. You think the others aren’t already looking for me? You think nobody knows I’m here?” I had only the tiniest portion of hope in my voice.
He smiled, his fangs in full view. “Oh I do know. But I’m afraid it is you who needs to learn to know better. Why, you seem to have forgotten my powers, my dear.” He paused. “they can search for you all they want, but they won’t find you. Because as long as you are with me, your aura is completely hidden. In fact, as long as your with me, it will be as if you never existed.” He grinned and then moved to sit on one of the bleachers.
I didn’t waste anymore time. I ran at him in impulse and punched the back of his head. He fell forward, hitting the bleachers with a loud crack, and I spun around heading for the door. He reached for my wrist, and pulled me back down, slamming me to the floor. A few of the floorboards were lifted, and I felt a shooting pain up my spine. He came down on me, trapping my lower body, and punched me once, hard, in the cheek. Luckily, nothing broke but my god did it hurt. I raised my arms and gave him the same punch, but in the nose. I heard a crack and he toppled off of me, rolling to the floor. I got up and sent my foot to his groin, and ran for the door. He lay there, squirming in pain, and I heard his screams as I ran towards the exit. It seemed miles away, but I got there eventually. Just as I reached the door, an intense burning sensation rippled throughout my mind, and I fell to the floor, writhing in agony. My whole body felt as if it was being burnt alive, and as I looked down, it was. Ryan was crouched in the middle of the room, staring at me, his eyes as red as blood, filled with intensity. I screamed and screamed tried to hit out the flames. I heard yelling from outside the doorway and footsteps, nearing ever so close. They tumbled through the doorway, and I saw much welcomed faces.
Andrew, Imron, Emily and Amber all stumbled in through the door, and lunged at Ryan, sending him down with a force that made the ground shake. The flames were still burning me, but I felt relief wash over me as one more face came through that door. Dantay. He had a cloth and started to whip out the flames. Amber came over, as Dantay had scooped me up into his arms, and was carrying me out of the school. The pouring cold rain was welcomed to my skin as it eased the pain of the burns.
