Thoughts

A small metal pod orbited earth, holding an impressive amount of supplies for it's size. The pod contained a mere two passengers, one of which was a small child looking on the planet below. The child didn't know it's name, nor why it was even up here or what it was looking down upon.

The other passenger strode up behind the child, glancing down at the small head feet below his own.

"It really makes you feel tiny doesn't it? Minuscule even. Your kind think they're so powerful." The passenger paused for a second, chewing the side of his check in thought, "I guess, in a way, you are. Hurtling towards destroying an entire planet in under a thousand years.

Tsk tsk, and what rowdy little things you are. Starting wars, winning them knee deep in the blood of your fellows. To what end? What's the point of the wars and truces, and all the other little petty things you do? You'll- They'll never make a dent, not in the universe at least. Not even in the Milky Way, you live and die in the blink of an eye so how do you expect to? More to the point, why do you lie to yourselves?

Ahh, but now? Now, I think you are too young to grasp what I am saying. You've barely learned to walk.

I will tell you this though, you have a chance. You could, if you so wished, make a dent in the universe. Well, this section at least. You can't make a dent in an infinity can you. No, I don't think that's possible... but" the passenger's tone brightened considerably on the but, "I have been wrong haven't I."

The passenger took long slow steps away from the child, leaving it to stare down at the earth below. It would take decades for the child to realize the importance of what they saw, but for now he would stare. The memory would stay with him for decades, and even flash before his eyes more vividly than it appeared now just before he died.

For now though, the child only stared wide-eyed at the earth, sliding carefully to the floor and propping his head on on his hands. Watching. Watching. Watching.
