Chapter Eleven: Are you saying I'm stupid?
Panic. That was all that filled my mind like a thick fog, and coursed through my veins as hot and ruthless as wildfire through a dry forest. I literally thought I was blind. I couldn't see anything, anything at all. Everything was dark, as if the power had been cut out and there was a high pitched ringing in my ears. Oh god, oh god, was all I kept chanting in my head. I've really gone and done it this time. Well done Shay, you're officially the most stupidest girl in the entire world. Then the pitch black sheet that covered my eyes was slowly getting lighter, turning grey, and I could see the outlines of the classroom's tables and chairs with a number of figures surrounding me. As the veil lifted so did the ringing in my ears. I blinked rapidly, until my vision returned to it's semi-normal state. I was lost for breath at the relief that swelled within my chest. Phew! That was a close one, I really thought I had made myself go blind.
“Woah, Shay, are you alright? Oh my god! I can't believe what- are you alright? Are you hurt? What happened?” I could hear Melissa babbling over and over again, her hand on my shoulder as she shook me out of my daze. Behind her I could see Adam and his honey orbs swirling with fear and concern.
“I'm okay,” I reassured them both, nodding my head for good measure as if I was trying to convince myself as well.
Once I had stopped thinking about myself I remembered the one other person who was within close contact with the explosion that I had created. Someone really needed to tie my hands behind my back and make sure they stayed there. I was unsafe to be around. Enough said.
I swivelled around so fast it took me a moment to steady myself and for my eyes to catch up, Ki was leaning over the desk, his hands clinging onto the edge with his knuckles turning white. His head was hung over as he kept blinking, there was black smudges that stained his prestigious white lab coat from the smoke of the explosion. The desk was soaked, it was dripping off the edges onto the floor and his books and papers were ruined.
“Yong!” We all heard the teacher shout from across the classroom. I froze, expecting detention or some kind of punishment for nearly burning the school down, but apparently all he seemed to care about was the mess left over. “Make sure you clean that up!”
“Yes, Mr. Blake.” Ki responded.
“I am so sorry!” I immediately began to apologise, feeling so utterly guilty. Why in the hell did I do that? I will be the first on to admit it, I am crazy if I ever thought reaching over and grabbing a bottle that contained unknown chemicals and pouring it into even more chemicals was a good idea. Absolutely Joker-crazy. “I don't know what happened...I...”
“No, you don't know what happened. You didn't know what was going to happen, and yet you poured the chemical in anyway into a solution you knew nothing about.” He didn't sound angry or upset with me, he just sounded...neutral, I guess. Like he was talking to a brick wall instead of a living, breathing person.
I glanced back at the mess I'd made, ignoring his tone of voice. That was like a bomb, I helped in creating a bomb. How many people can say that? Now that the danger was out of the way I felt pretty awesome about myself. Okay, I'm going to sound even crazier than before...but that was so liberating! I want to do it again!
“What happened? Seriously. Were you making a bomb?” I asked incredulously.
“I will not waste my time trying to explain it to someone of your lower intelligence.” He said simply as he shoved past Melissa and I and moved to the sink behind his desk, swilling his hands under the cold tap.
