My life is not easy. Balancing between school and my powers...I don't like it one bit, but I don't have a choice, I was born with these powers. Maybe this school year it will get better. I hope, at least.

Starting this school day, there's a new student who apparently came from England. He's gonna be my roommate, and I really never wanted a roommate, due to my powers, but I guess it's fine, since he'll probably never find out. Well, he arrived at around 7:30, before class started. He's pretty short, it seems.

"Ah...Umm...H-hi?" He stuttered, with slightly broken Japanese. I guess he's shy, as well.

"Hey, you don't have to act so shy around me. I'm Ren."

"My name is...O-Oliver..."

Classes started, and Oliver was in my class, 1-B, and he was being introduced.

"Today we have a new student. He's from England. Come in and introduce yourself."

He came in, slightly embarrassed, and introduced himself.

"Umm...m-my name is...Oliver Valentine..."

"Okay. Your seat will be the one next to Akari's."

So, with that, class started.

"Today, we will start learning about..." I drifted off to overhear Akari and Oliver.

"Hey! I'm Akari, nice to meet you!" She said to Oliver, to his surprise.

"...Nice to meet y-you too." He replied to her. They continued to talk for a little while, and Oliver didn't seem to want to talk to her.

So, when morning classes were over, it was break time. I looked to the side to see Oliver walking towards me.

"Can I eat lunch w-with you...?"

He was slightly embarrassed, but less than when we met.

"Sure."

It was mostly quiet during lunch until Akari came to sit with us.

"Hey guys!" She said to us, smiling. It's not that no one likes her, it's just that she can be pretty annoying at times.

"Why aren't you eating with the rest of the anime club?" I asked her. I mean, she is the president of the anime club.

"Well, I just want to meet the new students!" She said with a suspicious smile. Man, you can never know what she's thinking.

"So, Oliver, how are you so good a Japanese? For a foreigner, I mean."

"Well...I have a friend who lived in England who was Japanese, and she taught me." He paused. "That's also why I wanted to come to Japan." He explained, without stuttering this time. At least we're opening up to each other now.

"Are you planning to stay with her?" I ask him. It would actually be better for me if he did, so I wouldn't have to hide my powers from him.

"No, but I do plan to visit her." He replied with a small, cute smile. I blushed just enough so it was visible and of course, Akari had to notice. Well, this school year is starting off great.

So, after break, it was time for class again. This time we had gym. The girls had to go to another classroom to get changed, while to guys stayed. I saw that Oliver looked a little shy, probably because he never had to change with other guys before.

"Oliver, you shouldn't be scared, you'll get used to it in no time."

"Um...okay, I'll try," He replied, blushing a little. Why was he blushing? It's not like he's gay or anything.

Today, we are running the track field, which is usually used by the track and field team. We had to run to see how long it took for us to get around the track. Now, I'm not the best runner, but I'm not the worst. Also, the track is about one hundred meters around, so it's not that big.

After I ran, it was Oliver's turn. He wasn't looking very confident, probably due to him being a little chubby. But, he run with all his might. To be honest, I'm proud of him.

At the end of the day, everyone went back to their dorms. Oliver and I were walking back in silence. He was still exhausted after running.

When we got to our dorm, I changed into my hoodie, since it was more comfortable than my uniform. Oliver was laying on his bed. After a while, he fell asleep. That's fine. It was only his first day here. I walked over to his bed and put his blanket on him. You know, I think we will get along fine. I smile a little. But a very little, because I don't like to smile.

A little later, after I finished my homework, Oliver was still asleep.

"Hey," I motion to wake him up. "You shouldn't sleep for so long..." Oliver slowly opened his eyes. He smiled. I blushed. Why does he have to be so cute?! I swear, I am not gay!

Confused with my own feelings, I decide to back away.

"Is something wrong, Ren?" Oliver asks in confusion.

"...Uh, n-no, I'm fine." I replied, still blushing.

"Are you sure? You're face is red."

"I-I'm pretty sure..."

"Well, okay. If you say so." Oliver replied, still a little worried.

He started to get out his homework. He looks a little confused.

"Umm...can you help me with reading?" Oliver asked.

"Uh, sure."

I walk over and help Oliver with his homework. It's easier to speak Japanese than to read it. He understood quickly, so my embarrassment went away.

...

Wait.
What about my powers? I can't tell him about that, even if I look weird. He shouldn't be able to see them anyway...I don't want to ruin our friendship...

"Oliver."

I quickly transform and hold a dark flame in my hand. If he can't see anything, it'll be fine.

"R-Ren, you-" He started, to surprised to say any more.

No...why can he see my powers?! No one who I've ever met has!

"No...no! Why...? Why you?"

"R-Ren, please don't cry..."
He walks over and hugs me.

"Oliver...I didn't want you to know about the my powers, but since you can see them, I have no choice." I pat him on the head. "I have to power of darkness. I'm...s-so sorry you have...to be i-involved..."

I start to cry. Oliver...you're in way more danger than you know, and I have to protect you.

I will not let the Paradox take you away from me.
