Chapter Twenty:

Borussia Dortmund was arguably one of the best teams in Germany, following after Bayern Munich of course, much to the disappointment of Marco and the rest of the BVB players.

Marco still couldn't believe after all these years that he was representing this club, his local club. It was moments like these where he really hated the shit out of international breaks.

Don't get him wrong, he loves representing Germany just as much as he loves representing Dortmund, but he felt like he was on a roll with the club, being on his best form so far in the past few seasons. He just didn't want an unnecessary injury to come along in some friendly... like in 2014, when he had to miss the World Cup.

After an embarrassing defeat to England at home, the team would be soon on their way to Rome to play against the Italian national team. Of course, it was no doubt that the Italians would put up an unnerving fight, but Marco was still determined to play to his strengths.

In fact, he had asked Sandra to come with him to Rome. Not only because she would be a somewhat talisman to him, but also because she said she had never been to Italy before and he wanted to show her around the city of beauty.

"Good morning Reus," Said the young redheaded woman in a DFB tracksuit walking up to Marco as he put on his boots near the training ground. "Ready for check up?"

"Yes, I'll be right there Liesel." He replied. Liesel was the team's physician and she was implying to get ready for his daily check up to make sure that there weren't any unnecessary injuries that weren't noticeable.

Liesel gave out a wide yawn as they walked to the check up room. Marco had noticed the dark circles that were covering the underside of her eyes.

"You tired?"

"You have no idea," She chuckled half-heartedly. "These night classes are really starting to mess with my sleeping."

"Night classes? What for?" Marco asked, perplexed.

"Oh, it's nothing." Liesel brushed discouragingly. "Just some stupid classes I've taken on quantum physics."

"Quantum physics? You like that stuff?" Marco asked, shocked to hear this for the first time.

Liesel was a caring and helpful person, and he always thought that she was so perfect for the role of a medical staff.

"I do. At least enough to make me go take night classes."

"Funny. My girlfriend wants to become a quantum physician, or at least used to, I don't know about now." Marco stated, the word girlfriend tasted so raw in his mouth when he used it describe Sandra. He had to bite his tongue to stop him from saying 'my manager'.

"Does she? Well, I hope she achieves it. Not a lot of athlete girlfriends are that–" Liesel replied kindly.

"Ambitious?"

"That could be an appropriate word." She laughed nervously.

Marco thanked her. "You should meet her, you two might get along." He suggested eagerly.

He knew that ever since Sandra arrived, she had trouble finding people to spend time with. Especially now where all she gets to do is look for a job.

"Please stand on the machine." Liesel instructed, breaking the conversation to begin Marco's check up. "That would be nice. I haven't met any of the other guys' girlfriends before, although I've heard that they're not the most friendly."

"Don't worry, Sandra is completely different. She's one of the most down to Earth people I know."

Marco grinned at her approval. "Fantastic. Do you want to come over to my place, say tonight?" He earnestly asked.
