It had been a few weeks since I got that love letter from Aerith. We hadn't talked since then. She is always out at the Dark Depths saying that she is going to watch the sky and see if Cloud will come back. I think otherwise.
"Hey, Squall. Come on. Today we have a really big assignment," said a familiar voice that I could never forget.
"I told you not to call me that, Yuff," I said. I had known Yuffie all the way back to Traverse Town. That was where we met Sora. Sora. If it wasn't for him, Cid would have never made another gummi ship.
"Fine, 'Leon'. Let's go. By the way, do you know where Aerith is?" Yuffie asked.
"She's probably out at the Dark Depths, like always," I said. I must have had an annoyed tone, because Yuffie looked at me curiously.
"Something wrong?" she asked.
"No, it's nothing. Let's go. The town needs our help," I said. With that, I picked up my gun-blade and headed out the door.
The heartless was huge, twice the size of the last one. Damn they're getting big, I thought. They really were. You would have thought after Sora finished off that Xemnas guy, the heartless would be weaker, but no. I shot a fireball at it, but it only did little damage. I had to find out how to make this thing stagger so I can take it out. With that, a giant chunk of ice, along with a pillar of lightning, came out of nowhere and attacked the heartless. I looked to my left, and there she was.
I had to admit, she was beautiful, but why would she fall for a guy like me? She ran up next to me and said, "It looked like you needed a little help, so I decided to help you out."
I grinned. "I could have taken it out, but thanks for your help anyway," I replied.
She smiled back. The heartless let out a blood-cutting scream as a giant shuriken cut through its arm. It spun straight back to its owner, who looked and winked at me. Yuffie.
I rolled my eyes. I decided to finish this thing off once and for all. I pointed my blade to the sky, and it grew with a blinding golden light. I brought it down and looked up at my enemy. It seemed oblivious to the fact that it was about to be dispatched. I broke into a run, holding my blade with both hands. I jumped high, brought the blade over my head, and chopped downward. When I landed, it was disintegrating, and a heart, big and bright, floated out of it. The monster itself was gone, and the mission was over. My blade shrank back to its original form, and I let out an exaggerated sigh.
"Great job, Leon!" Aerith shouted. She ran to me and have me a big hug. I must have gone red in the cheeks because Yuffie smiled that annoying smile.
"Alright. Now we can go home and rest. That was a pretty tough fight," I said.
"Sounds like a great idea. I'm beat," said Yuffie. She jumped down from the ledge she was on and landed next to Aerith.
"I can make some cookies if you guys want," Aerith suggested.
My stomach growled loudly. "That's also a great idea. I'm starving," I said.
Aerith smiled. "In that case, I better make some spaghetti. And if you guys are still hungry, then I can make some cookies," she said. With that, we all turned and headed back towards Merlin's.
* * *
"That was amazing. Thanks A," I said. I rubbed my stomach. It was good. Aerith made a great spaghetti from scratch. She made a sauce with ripe tomatoes and chopped basil.
