~Chapter 1~

It’s dark but I’m not scared. I’m hurt but not defeated. I can sense them here. I can feel their eyes looking at me; piercing my body like bullets from a gun. The closer they come the harder the bullets. I can’t see them but, I can feel there present. Then I hear a voice,

“Get up or you’ll be late!” it says.

But I disregard it because I begin to recognize her voice. I start to shake. She’s shaking me. The darkness starts to fade and I see light, sunlight I’m sure.  I can smell something burning, eggs maybe. I feel the vibration of her feet as she runs out of the room. She yells back at me “Get up!”

I get up because I know I have too. I brush my teeth, wash my face, and brush my hair in a neat curly ponytail. I get dressed in a red collared shirt, a short puffy khaki skirt, and some beige flats with small red roses and open toe in the front. The same as everyday since I moved back in with my mom. Her name is Quinn Buckingham and I’m Amere, but my friends call me Mere. A “girl” in Rosemary, AR.  I’m 18 years old. I was born July 17, 1994.  I go to the kitchen for breakfast “Good morning” I say as I sit down at the table.

“Hi. Do you have your bag for practice?” Quinn asks.

“Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me.” I ran out of the room and grab my duffle but I can’t remember if I pack it so I better check. “Nope” I mumbled to myself as I rush to find my shoes, tights, and leotard. Then I remember my key and I realize I’m so unprepared. I almost forgot my jogging suit but I got it all. By the way I’m on the Gymnastics team, the karate team, and I’m on the scholar bowl team. I also practice ballet for grace and beauty.

“Got them, thanks” I say as I walk back into the kitchen but as I’m about to sit down I take a good look at the food.

“Um…I think I’ll have a bagel instead because I have to go to practice this morning.” That food looked awful; everything was black and flaky, eww she never was a good cook. “Okay then do you need a ride?”She asked

“No I’m good. And hey, have you seen my iPod?”

“Yeah, it’s on the table by the door, have a great day bye!” she replied. My mom is always so cheerful even after Smith, my older brother died in the crash.

“Bye mom, I loved you.” I called back as I grabbed my iPod and ran out the door. I put the earphones in my ears, hopped on my bike and headed towards school. I attend Dawn High School and I am a straight A-student.

I have gymnastics practice this morning and I want to try a forwards walk over, front handspring, aerial, front tuck, a round off back handspring back tuck, layout, and a killer pose to smooth it all out. I’m told I’m the best but I don’t believe I am because I can still do better. At practice I perfect my routine and go take a shower.

When I finished and I went to my locker and there was a letter inside and it said:

Dear Amere,

Please don’t keep us waiting any longer because if you do we’ll be forced to take action. And you don’t want that to happen do you?

-Black O.

At first it scared me because I know exactly what they want and what they’ll do. They are Black Optimus a dark force that killed my brother. I said he died in a crash because that’s what mother thinks but I know what really happen because they killed me too. And they want me and my friends’ powers for their own.

It was a dark night in the woods and we were hunting. My older brother taught me many things and he was the best at everything. We were like best friends. He always wore his school football jacket, jean shorts, and his Nikes. He had dark brown curly hair and dark green eyes just like me. The night they came for us was the scariest night of my human life. They came at all angles and he tried to fight them off but, there was too many. They found me in the bush I was hiding in and one of them knocked me out. By the time I woke up I was in an all white room on a bed. I had on this all white jogging suit and some white Nikes. There were marks all over my arm where they stuck needles inside of me. Then a door open and a man in black walked in and told me I wasn’t alive that I could not die easily, that I was given skill beyond any skill anyone has been given. I can still grow but I will stop aging at 28 as will anyone with special skills. They trained me to be the best, as I was.

I stayed there for almost a year when I escaped with Ezi and Jaz. We ran and eventually made it back to my mother in Rosemary. Ezi and Jaz built a camp where they lived and several more across the country for safety. It was hard but we started to adapt to the people and the town. We have been here for 5 years now.
