In a moment everything can change

Acadia or Cadi -as her friends and family called her- , sat in front of her vanity mirror brushing out her middle back length black hair before pulling it back into a pony-tail. She smiled as she laid a hand on her belly, feeling a small round of kicks her smile grew wider. She was two months pregnant and almost finished packing for her move out to the west coast.

Currently, she lived in Tampa while she finished up her master's degree in music at the University of Southern Florida. Even though her parents were dead set against her move, she felt like it was necessary especially for the sake of her unborn child, whose father, her now Ex-boyfriend Gadriel was no longer in the picture after he wouldn't cease in physically abusing her. Cadi thought about Gadriel as tears began to well up in her dark ocean-blue eyes, she loved that man with all her heart but she never understand why he resulted to hitting her anytime they had a disagreement.

Feel the wind on your shoulder

Shaking of her sad feeling, Cadi stood up and walked out into the living room of the flat she shared with her mom, grandma, niece, and two brothers. Cadi and her grandma took her mom, niece, and brothers in after her father passed away in his sleep at the age of 43. Even though after the age of twelve Cadi hated her father, deep down she still loved him and missed him dearly as well as her PawPaw who passed before she turned twenty.

For a minute all the world can wait

Cadi was getting lost in her emotions only to be brought back to reality by her niece's call to her, to help her get something to eat for breakfast. She smiled and walked to the kitchen lending her niece a hand before her eldest younger brother walked out dressed to go to his job.

Before he left; Cadi, her brother, and her niece all sat down and ate together before her niece left to catch her bus and her brother left for work, leaving Cadi alone at the table. Her youngest brother had left for his school day, while her mom and Grandma or MawMaw as she called her snuck out earlier to go grocery shopping.

Can you hear it calling?
Can you feel it in your soul?
Can you trust it's longing
And take control?

Cadi got up from the table and cleared it, before walking over to wash the dishes. As she finished washing the dishes, her Ex-fiancé  Leon walked through the door in his police uniform.

"Well, hey stranger" she smiled looking at him from the dishes.

"Hey beautiful, mini beautiful in the belly" he smiled back at her.

Leon and Cadi had dated for three years after her split from Gadriel and got engaged two years after that, but the stress of Leon being a cop became too much for Cadi to bear so they mutually broke it off and remained friends.

"What brings you by so early?" Cadi asked.

"Just thought I'd stop by before your big move is all." He chuckled.

"Yeah, I'm just hoping Kai will be ready to go." She giggled.

Leon and Cadi talked for a couple more hours before he finally had to go back to work. The goodbye hug was bittersweet as Cadi watched Leon walk out the door for what seemed like the last time.

Fly, open up the part of you that wants to hide away
And you can shine, forget about the reasons
Why you can't in life and start to try
'Cause it's your time, time to fly

She looked at the clock on her wall and then picked up the phone to call her best friend Kai.

"Hey Kai, you ready to..." her words cut off short.

In a moment everything can change

"What do you mean you aren't going?!" She asked a little upset.

Feel the wind on your shoulder

She hung up the phone and held back tears, as she couldn't believe that her best friend was bailing on her hours before the big move that they had both planned together.

Cadi laid her hand on her belly and sighed, "I guess we are going to California on our own little one."

She looked out the window and watched as the coming clouds began to bring a thunderstorm as lightning flashed in her eyes.

That was four years ago today, and I'm still wondering why her reason was so....

complicated.
