“Home at last,” Cheyenne murmurs as she pulls into her parent’s driveway. She had loved college but man had she missed her small town home. In her opinion nowhere will ever feel as much like home as Lakeview and with any luck, she won’t have to find out. That is so long as her restaurant is successful.

She gets her only two suitcases amongst her boxes of belongings and starts up to the house. Only the kitchen light is on which is a surprise because of the time. Usually her parents are up around seven and it is nearly one now. When she had talked to them last night to tell them what time she would be home, they had said to just go inside. So that is what she does with her old house key.

“Mom! Dad! I am home.” Silence. “Leah? Scarlette?” Still nothing. Shrugging, she goes down the hall to her old bedroom that has been converted to a guest room.

On the bed is a note.

Cheyenne,

We are so glad that you are home! Sorry that we couldn’t be here to greet you but we had to run into town for some errands. We should be home around two. Leah and Scarlette should be home around one-thirty. They spent last night at a friend’s house. Do me a favor and get ready in a nice outfit, preferably dress or skirt with a blouse, please. Your father told everyone that came into the store that you were coming home...including Shane. He was pleased to hear that you are coming back home.

Anyway back to the reason that you are dressing up, Toryn decided to throw a party/barbeque for you at her house. The party starts at three.

-Mom

Smiling, Cheyenne sets her bags on the bed. Shane... Oh how she has missed him. They had tried the long distance thing for a while after she left for the university and he stayed here to go to the community college. It just hadn’t worked. They had grown apart and after two years had broken up.

Sighing, she shakes her head. It doesn’t matter if he is pleased that she is back. He is probably married with children by now. No matter what though, she will always love him, he was her first and only love after all. Well, only love so far. Before his dad had fallen ill and he was still going to be leaving for university with her, she’d thought she would marry him one day. Become his wife and the mother of his children. Now, with him likely married, that isn’t about to happen.

“Chy?” Cheyenne’s head snaps up to look at her sisters, who are standing in the doorway.

“Hey you guys.” She stands up and they each go to her and give her a hug in turn. To be fifteen, they are both incredible sweet and loving. They still haven’t hit the attitude stage yet. “How is school going you two?”

They shrug. “Okay.”

She smiles. “Any guys that I should know about?”

The smile. “Maybe?”

Cheyenne motions to the bed as she stands up and starts to unpack. “Spill.”

Leah looks at Scarlette before starting. “You remember Beaux, right”

Cheyenne thinks for a second before it clicks that Scarlette is talking about her best friend. “Yeah.”

“Yeah well, I don’t know what happened but we had been hanging out a lot and talking more than we used to. Then one day it changed. I realized how cute he is and then I started wondering what it would be like to hold his hand. And now I have this huge crush on him and it hasn’t gone away yet.”

Smiling, Cheyenne nods. “That is what happened with Shane and I. I am so happy for you. Has he asked you out yet?”

Leah looks away. “I haven’t told him yet.”
