Maddie's gun hissed as it powered down. Danny Phantom was slumped on the floor in front of her with a hand covering his gaping wound. She had found him in front of the portal emptying a Fenton Thermos.

He looked up with fearful eyes and dashed up the stairs of the lab, leaving a trail of ectoplasm in his wake. Maddie simply followed him, holding her gun close but in no hurry; there was no escape for him.
She followed the trail out of the basement, and saw that the railing was stained with his ectoplasm.

Maddie walked through the kitchen and noticed the puddles got a little bigger. She walked to the stairs that lead to the second floor and walked up, avoiding another ectoplasm stained railing. However, she stopped dead in her tracks when she saw red in a puddle of green. Red blood, to be exact.

Maddie stooped down and took off her hood, her short red hair falling around her face as her violet eyes scanned the red substance staining her black glove. She stood up and started following the trail again. Maddie carefully opened her son's bedroom door and saw Phantom slumped against the far wall.

"I knew... I couldn't keep...this a secret...for much longer..." he gasped, clutching the wound. He coughed up red and green; groaning letting his head fall back against the wall.
Then, Maddie noticed the red blood and green ectoplasm staining the floor around him. It painted the walls and bed and looked like a crime scene from a horror movie.

She looked into his dull green eyes and he looked back. Growling at the pain in his chest, he struggled to breath.

Breathing, he's breathing, Maddie thought, fascinated, but also frightened. She covered her mouth to keep herself from gasping as his aura faded and was turned into a white ring of light around his waist. The ring split into two, one going up and the other going down. They revealed her son's white and red shirt, but it was covered in ectoplasm and blood. The ring going down revealed baggy blue jeans also covered in blood and ectoplasm. Phantom's eyes went from a dull toxic green to even duller icy blue. His hair went from white to black. Her eyes watered filled with unshed tears as she dropped her gun to the floor. Maddie's eyes were wide, filled with shock and horror, as she choked back sobs.
She fell to her knees tears falling freely now.

The last thing Danny said to her was was, "I hope...no one...has to ever go through this. I'm sorry... Mom..." Danny heaved one last breath and with his exhale his hand dropped, his eyes slid shut for the last time, and he completely slumped to the floor. Maddie was still looking at her son in shock and horror, her son. She'd just killed her son. Her son was Danny Phantom.

The redhead sobbed and crawled over to her baby boy, "No, I'm sorry, so, so sorry." Maddie whispered. She held his cold form in her arms, moving his hair out of his face and gently petting it, not caring about the blood and ectoplasm staining her hazmat suit. Maddie sobbed for, she didn't know how long, trying to figure out why she would do something so...

Unspeakable.

Floating a few feet away with a sad look on his face was Danny. He opened his mouth to say something, anything, but his ghost sense went off and a hand was placed on his shoulder before he could. He looked behind him and saw Clockwork looking at him with sad red eyes. He shook his head and Danny spared his mother one last glance before going through one of Clockwork's portals.
He looked up at his mentor with tear filled eyes and fell to his knees, sobbing quietly. Then, he heard the gentle tap of claws on the floor and felt two warm arms wrap around him.

"I know it won't help but...I'm so sorry, I should've been there..." he felt a tear land on his shoulder.

He looked up at his friend, Fire Wolf, and said, "There's nothing you could've done."

She sighed, "I know. I know, it just... seems so...Unspeakable." Their shoulders shook as they cried and Clockwork looked at them with a sad expression.

He looked back at his looking glasses and saw Danny taking his place as King of the Ghost Zone.
Then, he looked at them again, was it really worth it?

He sighed, "All is as it should be." he whispered, listening to the silent sobs behind him.
"All is as it should be."
