I texted Meg as soon as I got home and told her what happened. She called me right away and we talked for a while until I fell asleep.
The next morning I woke up to my alarm. My head still hurt, so I took some more painkillers and then got ready. I dressed in my uniform with a black cardigan, brushed my hair and clipped it halfway up, and then I brushed my teeth. I didn't put on any makeup though. I was never one to wear makeup. It was just a waste of time. The most I'd ever put on is mascara.
By the time I was finished, there was a car horn honking outside. It was Casper. I quickly grabbed a granola bar and my water bottle and hurried out, locking the door behind me. I put my sunglasses on to block the light from hurting my head more. It was in the 60's today so it was a bit chilly but the sun was peeking through the clouds.
When I got in the car he greeted me. "Good morning my favorite drug addict."
He made it nearly impossible to hold back my smile. "Good morning."
"How's your head?", he asked getting a bit more serious but still light-hearted.
"It's better", I answered honestly. "Now it's just a bad headache."
"That's good."
We made small talk the rest of the ride and then pulled into the parking lot of the park.
"Thanks", I said when we got out of the car. "For everything."
"I'd do it again in a heartbeat." I went silent for a second and I swear I could hear my own heart drumming in my ears. I wasn't sure what to say. "Well, I hope I'll see you later."
"Yeah." Again, my lips couldn't help but curl into a smile.
I dumbfoundedly watched him walk away.
"Don't get too swept up, Cinderella." I whipped around to see Meg standing there laughing.
"Shit, Meg." I slapped her arm. "You can't just sneak up on me like that." She didn't care though. She was already busying herself by inspecting Casper's car.
"This is nice", she said, smiling. She tried to peer in through the windows but failed to see anything. "Tinted windows." She slowly turned to me. "Kinky."
"Would you stop." I laughed and hit her again. "Come on, we have to go."
She groaned but followed me into the park. She walked to her stand and I stopped by Allen's office.
"Hey, I just wanted to stop by and make sure you heard about what happened." I announced once I got in.
He looked up from his computer. "Yes, ma'am. It's all taken care of. Nothing for you to worry about."
"Cool", I nodded.
"Are you alright?" He asked.
"Yes, sir. I'm fine."
"You know, you don't have to work today if you don't feel up to it."
"I'm fine", I insisted.
"Okay," He smiled "Take it easy today."
"Will do", I muttered as I walked away.
There was nothing wrong with Allen. He was just a little off-putting. A middle-aged man who has a career running a failing amusement park. I'm 90 percent sure he lives in his mother's basement. But he's nice.
I followed the normal routine. Went to my booth, ran the coster, read the script, and then took my break.
I walked to Meg's tent with a hot dog and 2 sodas in hand.
