Little Debbie's chocolate donuts

I looked in the mirror at my reflection, black converse, black dress and a black cardigan. I like the color black but not for the occasion it was for. A funeral, for my neighbor. He had died recently, some type of accident, I'm not really sure, nor do I really care.
"Sigh...What a pain in the ass." I mumble.
"Hurry up or we're going to be late!" My mom yelled from downstairs.
I headed down, making sure to grab my earphones, I don't go anywhere without them. I wouldn't survive otherwise.
                               *buzz*
I had a text message from my best friend; Amanda.
Amanda: Hey Mia, you going to the funeral for you're neighbor? I can't believe he died! It's crazy lol
Me: Ughhh it's a drag, but I am because of my mom
Amanda: Don't say that! He died after-all, even if you two never really talked, he still went to our school and all, but anyway do you wanna grab a bite after?

  Me: Sure

   Amanda: Okay cool 😋
Should I invite Cole too? He's totally got the hots for you and he's such a klutzes, it's the cutestttt ❤️❤️❤️

  Me: Do whatever you want...

  Amanda: Yay!!! I'll ask himmmm

I walk into the church as my mom hands me a wristband that says "Rip Alex Payne"
" Put this on." She commands me.
I look around to see almost my entire school here, I knew he was popular but I didn't think he was this popular. He really is a pain, if I died, my funeral would consist of my mom, Amanda, and Cole probably; unless that is people go to just look good. We went and sat in the second row to the front, just behind Alex's mom and dad, right next to Amanda.
      They turn around,
"Thank you for coming, I know it would have meant a lot for Alex to see how much everyone cared for him." his mom said as his dad clutched her hands tightly.
"Not at all, I'm just so sorry, I can't imagine what your going through. If you ever need anything don't hesitate to ask, dear." My mom said in reply.
    "T-th"
"Thank you for your support, we definitely appreciate it." Alex's dad finished the sentence for his wife, as she through her head into his chest, trying to calm down.
As I looked around, crying faces could be seen everywhere, there were a lot of girls who were hugging each other. They were probably crushing on Alex at the time, and we're now broken-hearted; too bad he won't be fond over anymore.
"Hey, so Cole is definitely a go, after I told him you were going, you should of seen how his eyes lit up and his face got flushed." Amanda whispered in my ear.
" Wish I could have seen that." I quietly said amused, he was like a puppy. I mean, maybe someday I would go out with him, you never know.
"Shhh...It's starting..." My mom says as she pulls out tissues from her purse, and she hands some to me and Amanda, but I won't be using mine. I hand them over to Amanda who is already about to burst into tears. She may have not really known him but she's so sensitive, it's ridiculous.
"Welcome and thank you all for coming..." Alex's mom says on a mic, and the funeral begins, as my favorite song at the moment does.
           *******************************
People began to get up and go meet with others to grieve even more. I stretched, my butt totally numb.
"Let's get going." Amanda pulls on my arm,
" Cole's waiting in front of the church and I can't stay in this depressing environment without crying again."
" Where are you going?" My mom wipes away the last of her tears.
"Just out to grab a bite." I stand up.
"Okay, I'll meet you back at home then, there's some people here I would like to visit with." She gets up and begins to walk over to a group of people, and greets them kindly. My mom knows a lot of parents, she's the president of the PTA board after all.
We walk outside, it's actually a nice day out, the sun is shinning bright and it's warm with a slight breeze. I look to the left of the church to find Cole awkwardly standing there, checking the time until he spots us. He begins to walk over with a face of excitement and overjoy that isn't concealed at all.
"H-hey" he says with a small wave.
      "Hiiiii" Amanda smiles big.
I just gave him a small smile and a wave back. His face became even more happy, if that was even possible.
"You're driving Cole!" As she begins to walk over to his car. It was nice car, a 2014 red Honda Civic, with a black interior, but not the nicest car I've ever seen.
"O-okay." Cole pulls out his car keys from back pocket, unlocking the car. Amanda jumps in the back seat, so I just take shotgun. I feel a vibration in my cardigan pocket and pull out my phone.
Amanda: Cole's nervous, just look at him, seriously he just needs to ask you out already. But if he's going to do that, he'll need the courage, so you should def flirt with him today 😝✌️
   Me: Whatever...
I put my phone away and decide to look on the radio for something to listen to.
" S-so, how are handling this, if you need anyone to talk to I'm here for you, not that I'm saying you're weak or anything," He laughs awkwardly, "You're the toughest and coolest girl I know! But it's okay to be sensitive too is what I'm saying!" His face becomes pink, he knows he sounds stupid but he isn't good at trying to communicate his feelings; though he is good at displaying them on his face. Kinda like the alien dude from Home I actually liked that movie and lowkey think it should have earned more credit.
"Thanks but I'm fine, I didn't really know him that well anyway. He was just my neighbor who went to the same school, we rarely ever talked." I said casually, and then began to hum along to the song playing in the car.
"R-right..." Cole went silent until we got to the ice cream parlor. We decided to get burgers and then ice cream after. While we waited for our food, all I could hear was more talk about how unbelievable it was that Alex had really died. I decided to head to the bathroom.
"I'll be back, I have to use the restroom." I started getting up.
"Okay, don't be too longggg." Amanda said.
I began to walk towards the bathroom and on the way I bumped into someone. He apologized under his breath, while pulling on his hood to cover his face more. He's probably like Cole and isn't good with people. I said it was fine and headed into the bathroom, I had to pee.
When I got back the food was on the table and they had already begun to eat. Most of our conversations were about the funeral, Cole's awful attempt at flirting, or Amanda's random thoughts. For example she decided that she was really going to test how many licks it takes to get to the middle of a tootsie pop.
For dessert we all just shared a banana split, with chocolate, birthday cake, and mint chocolate chip ice cream with nuts and a cherry sprinkled on top. It was really good and by the end I was stuffed. Cole then drove us both back home, dropping off Amanda first and then me. It was a pretty silent ride and the conversations we did have were pretty dry and uninteresting.
        ***********************************
I had to pull an all nighter since school was tomorrow and I needed to finish my essay before class on Monday. By the time I finished it was about 2:30am, and I decided that it was a good time to go to the store to find a late night snack. I grabbed my keys and headed out the front door, locking it behind me. I drove to the closest Walmart and went towards the snack aisle. First, I grabbed a bag of my favorite sun chips; Garden Salsa. Then I headed to grab a green tea Arizona. I love how big they are and they're still only 99¢.  I didn't want to deal with people and so I decided to go to the self checkout area. I scanned my items and went to pull out the money from my wallet when I noticed that I was still wearing the bracelet, I guess I had forgotten to take it off, ehhh whatever. As I put the money in the machine. I looked around and see the typical Walmart shopper but hey I can't judge I'm here too right now and I probably look like crap. Scratch that, I know I do.
As I wait for my change, I spot a guy munching on chocolate donuts. He looked really familiar. Then it hit me, it was the guy from the ice cream parlor wearing the hoodie that I accidentally ran into earlier. Now that I look at him, he seems a little more familiar
than that. Does he go to my school? I look at him closely and then realized who he actually was. He wasn't just the guy I ran into, it was Alex, but isn't he dead? I'm really confused, so I decided that I would use my third best option and just ignore him, I'm hoping this was the best option. I grab my chips and Arizona and began to head for the front doors, too confused and not wanting to even think about it. Then the sound footsteps behind me got closer and my shirt is tugged on. I turn around to see a bag of Little Debbie donuts being shoved in my face.
"Hey I'm Alex, care for a Little Debbie chocolate donut? They're my favorite." He said as he popped a whole one in his mouth. I'm so confused, isn't he dead?! I stare dumbfounded, I couldn't believe it, Alex was right here but then why does everyone think he's dead?
