“This is bullshit!” Zayn yelled. The loud and angry voice not only scared his boyfriend, who was sitting right beside him, but his manager as well. The dark-haired boy, like usual, either didn’t see the effect he caused or didn’t care.
Harry hesitantly set his hand down on top of Zayn’s, giving his fingers a squeeze. “Babe, calm down. It isn’t that big of a deal…”
“It is a big deal! Why are you so passive about this?”
“Stop yelling! God, we can’t even have a bloody discussion without you flipping out!”
“I’m not flipping out!”
The two boys continued back and forth, though Zayn was the one doing most of the yelling. Harry sat there through it and rolled his eyes, looking away, and pretended to be anywhere but right there in that moment. It was practically a daily ritual by now. Zayn would get pissed off about something, Harry would try to fight back, and halfway through he would just give up. No matter what either of them said, or even if Harry was actually the one right, he was wrong. It was always his fault.
“Zayn, that’s enough.” Simon finally snapped. The couple looked up at their manager, Zayn with annoyance, and Harry with relief. “This is exactly why the ratings are so low. You do understand that, don’t you? All you two do it argue.”
Harry blinked up at him, biting his lip to hold back a sharp retort. No, fighting wasn’t all they did. That was just what the cameras decided to always pick up. They didn’t see what really made them a couple. There was no camera when their kisses turned softer and more passionate, or when they were in bed cuddled up so close after lovemaking it was like they were one person. No, nobody else got to see that, and they wouldn’t be able to understand unless they were in his shoes. He found Zayn’s fingers again and laced them together, breathing out a sigh. Sometimes he was sure he was the older one.
He was entitled to an opinion too, right? He didn’t see why not. He was just as upset about the whole ‘plan’ as Zayn was, but he knew they could only do so much. If this was guaranteed to help them, what could he do other than go along with it?
“As I was trying to explain,” Simon went on, rubbing his temple with his thumbs. He almost always ended up with a headache during a meeting with Zayn. “You’ve seen what people are saying about the show. If we don’t do something soon, nobody will be watching it, and you know what that means.” He glared pointedly at Zayn, who bit his lip.
Months ago, things had been worse than a rollercoaster. Harry’s career was soaring as he started to star in more movies, shows, and ads. That was perfect. People called him the most amazing actor they had ever seen sometimes, and he could just feel his heart swell because he was so damn happy. Zayn had been doing pretty well too. He was one of the most successful models in the business, adored by thousands, if not millions. It seemed like everyone knew he and Harry’s names. When they revealed they were together, that was just the icing on the cake.
Things had quickly changed, though. Harry continued to act, and neither of them had been more excited than when Zayn was invited to be a judge on America’s Next Top Model. They were ecstatic. They were flown to California, and when Zayn wasn’t needed, he and Harry explored together. Nobody was stressed, and life seemed to be at its peak. They were on top of the world.
Of course, what goes up must come down at some point, and that was exactly what Zayn’s career did. He hadn’t meant to make that girl cry, he really didn’t. It was her fault that she wasn’t able to take the blame properly. He had stated the simplest facts—that she needed to work out more, fix that mane she called hair, etc. – and she had ran out crying because she was so upset. Needless to say, he didn’t return, and the episode was still broadcasted so everyone could see how much of an asshole he was. His career was ruined.
