I just landed here in Alaska after a whole 4 years in London. I got a scholarship in London, so my parents sent me there to study. Little did I know that they would die in a car crash three days later. It was hard for me after that but I managed to live with it - not entirely - and graduated from University.
My grandma was admitted in the hospital in Alaska due to a sudden major heart attack. There was no one to take care of her as my parents were dead and so was my grandpa. My grandma was at the old folks' home temporarily until I finished my studies and was able to take care of my grandma.
Just as I landed, I drove straight to the hospital and rushed up to the counter only to be stopped by a lady that worked at the reception saying that visiting hours was over since an hour ago.
I managed to convince her with a lot of effort and a little bit of money. I got in the lift using the direction that the lady at the reception gave of my grandma's whereabouts.
I haven't seen grandma since I left to London. I'd be lying if I said that I didn't miss her. We were so close before I left. Mom always complained about how grandma pampering me so much. Whenever mom or dad would get mad at me, I'd run and hide by my grandma who never failed to get me out of trouble.
I walked through the hallway of the hospital as I looked on my right and my left searching for the room number that the receptionist informed that my grandma was in. I stopped in my tracks as the numbers on the door matched the number I'd been murmuring as I walked through the hallway.
I knocked before opening the door, just in case. Peeking my head inside, I was immediately bombarded with white walls, white floor, white bed and white everything. No matter how much I studied, I'd never understand why hospitals were always white. My guess is that they couldn't be bothered to pay extra money to add colors to the walls and bed sheets. Good thing that the patience's clothing had colors - well, one uniformed color; turquoise.
There sat my grandma on the edge of the bed with her legs resting by the side of the bed. That was when I noticed that we weren't the only ones on the room. A guy who had his back to me was standing next to the bed and talking to grandma. He wasn't the doctor nor was he anyone working in the hospital because he wasn't wearing a uniform. He only wore casual clothes which consists of Black T-shirt with white, faded jeans and a pair of maroon converse. He had dirty blonde hair that was neatly combed which made me judge his age. According to his hair and his dressing sense, I'm guessing that he's a year or two older than me.
I'm currently 22 years old and I will be turning 23 this April first. I know, my birthday is on April Fools and yes, I have been fooled multiple times before. Even though I would always prepare myself, somehow, through some sort of loophole, people always manage to fool me. Even though it was absolutely irritating and annoying every time I hear someone exclaim "April Fools!" after leading me into believing something, I can't help but actually find it amusing.
"Cerys?" I heard a very elderly voice - very familiar voice that brought back memories from when my parents were here with me. "You made it," it was grandma who finally realised that I was standing by the door. I gave her a warm smile as I walked in and shut the door behind me.
Choosing to ignore the mysterious guy eyeing me like a predator, I walked towards the bed where grandma and the guy stood next to, "How are you, grandma?"
