READY.

I focused my cameras to find a black grid in front of me. I found that the lines were solid. A blue duck glared at me through it with disdain. I tried to speak, but I couldn't. All I could do was display characters, three on each screen.

???    ???

"Do you know what happens to foul-mouthed robots?" He pulled out a bottle of bubbling seltzer, aiming right at me. "They get seltzer."

I beeped loudly and jumped back, knocking down my enclosure. Carbonated water shot overhead. I tried desperately to escape, but I could hardly move because the thing was so small. "What in the name of science are you doing?!" cried Thunderwoof. "Release him at once!"

The duck still tried to short me out. I managed to tumble away just in time. The red dog opened the cage and took me out of it. I stared at him blankly, but I felt the safest I'd ever been. I didn't know what a father was then, but now I suppose that's what he was like. The duck had another idea. "Dynamite and REX, sitting in a tree," the duck began.

Dynamite simply shook his head and walked away with me. I wagged my tail. We left the room and went down the hallway, then outside. He set me down on the grass. "I told them not to silence you, but they did it anyway. Who the heck is supposed to defeat a Legal Eagle with no cog-fighting experience? Oh well." He sat against the white wall. "If the whole cog-fighting thing doesn't work, I'd like you to be my doodle. I haven't had a doodle since I lost Sorbet."

I heard a distant propeller. Before I knew it, it was close. I looked to find another Legal Eagle. Quicker than Dynamite could pull out a cake, faster than the cog could send forth his flock, I plugged in my cable. The cog screamed as he was infected, and fell once disabled. Dynamite stared at me, surprised.

WHA T??

"You learn fast, don't you?" He smiled. "I knew you could do it. Now they're going to make 99 more of you." I didn't know what to make of this news. He came closer and tugged my antenna gently in a specific pattern. "Rest now, REX. You'll have a new friend when you wake," was the last thing I heard him say.
