Misery Business
“I’m a what?” I hold my head in my hands as I try to comprehend what Deaton said. “A visionary. One who sees visions; a seer,” explains Deaton. “So she is a psychic?” asks Isaac, rubbing my knuckles. “More or less. Psychics get the exact future in a vision, whatever they do they cannot change what will happen whereas visionaries get visions of what will happen if they don’t interfere. That is why visionaries are so rare. The visions can show risky, deathly visions so they only go to the ones who are willing to change the future.” Deaton takes a seat on his swivel chair. “So the fatigue, sweating, fevers. They are just the effects of receiving a vision?” I ask. “At first. They will eventually go away as you learn to control your abilities,” Deaton answers my question with complete honesty. “You said you knew another visionary. Who was it?” I criss cross my legs on the operating table. “She passed away a long time ago but you probably know her grandson. Daniella Hale was her name,” his heart beats never change. “Derek’s grandma was a visionary?” “Yes she was. She was a very powerful werewolf. If you want to know more about your abilities and how to control them Derek is your best choice. Daniella taught him everything,” says Deaton.
“Werewolves and visionaries? Is this a joke?” asks Amanda, sitting in the office chairs completely confused. “Manda,” Scott hesitates, Amanda we aren’t exactly normal. We are werewolves.” Her face lights up and her body is overcome with laughter, “You really expect me to believe this? Werewolves aren’t real.” “We can show you,” I say with a sigh. “No, I have a sleeping three year old. We are going to go home and all three of you are taking drug tests. End of story, let’s go.” She stands up and repositions Jessie.
“Boys,” I motion them to show her. They turn to me for the signal to turn. I nod and the boys change together. Their eyes glow gold, their nails turn to claws, and sideburns appear. I watch Amanda’s eyes fill with terror and she pulls Jessie’s body closer to her own. “Do you believe us now?” I ask, patting Isaac and Scott’s shoulder so they will turn back. She nods,” Is there more?” “Erica and Boyd were bitten,” I explain,” Lyric and Derek were born into it. Then the Alpha, the cause of the ‘animal’ attacks, is the one who bit us.” Isaac jumps onto the steel table with me wrapping his arms around my waist. I lean back against him, taking in the radiating heat. “Is there anything else I need to know?” her tone becomes irritated. “Scott’s girlfriend and her family are hunters who want us dead,” I say with an innocent smile as if it isn’t a big deal. “How can your girlfriend and her family be hunters if they are werewolves?” she directs at Scott. “Allison isn’t a werewolf,” he defends her. “Who is Allison? I thought you were dating Lyric!” she becomes confused again. “Why would you think I was dating Lyric?” he tries to hold back a blush. “Well excuse me for thinking the girl you were cuddled up to was your girlfriend,” she argues. Isaac and I laugh at my sister. “I’m done with this crap for tonight. We are going to go home and all of you are going to bed,” she begins to walk out of the clinic. We all follow behind her after saying our goodbyes to Deaton.
Once we arrive home it is eleven twenty. I go up to my room to take a shower, riding myself of the sweat. Isaac lays on my bed talking to me as I take my shower. When I feel clean I get out and put on an orange bra, black lace underwear, and some soffe shorts, still feeling hot from the vision’s effects.
I walk into my bathroom and plug my phone up. Isaac looks up from his phone taking in what I’m wearing. “So I get a show before bed?” he laughs. “If you want one,” I smirk heading to my side of the bed. “Nah, but you know what I do want?” he lays his head next to mine. “What would that be
