Chapter 7: Specks of Green

The tension is so thick, I could slice through it using a knife. Rage burns in her diamond like-eyes, and if looks could kill, I would be dead.

"I sleep for about twenty minutes and this happens?" A voice says. All our heads snap back to Whitney, who look at all of us, dumbfounded. Her eyes are filled with fear and worry, and suddenly I felt my logical side snap back and guilt spread across my body.

"I just...what...what happen..." she says, and if guilt was an ocean I would be drowning. I look down, unable to face myself. I felt like the biggest sinner in the world.

"I'm sorry sis...I-"

"I apologise, Azure, for my irrational actions. The anger inside me from everything just build up and burst into a hurl of harmful words towards me. Believe me, I intended no harm, I was just...profusely angry." Tabs says before I could continue, and I blink for a few seconds, registering everything she says and mutely nod.
"Yea, uh, I'm sorry too." I say, and another awkward silence passes, before an abrupt beep goes off. Jack and Damien hurry to the white disc while I go towards Whitney, who's hugging her knees and searching my face for answers.

"What happen?" She asks, her voice croaking slighty, and I swallow a fragment of my shame and manage to tell her everything. Going over it, I felt stupider and more childish, making a big deal out of something so small. I should've just laughed it off. Tabs listens too, her face remaining expressionless until I mention the 'her-using-me' part, in which I see guilt cover her face but replaced with blankness.

"That's it? Jeez, I thought you like punched out Tabs teeth or something." Whitney laughs, as Tabs and I crack a hesitant smile.

"Yea, I'm known for to overreact. Sad, huh?" I laugh, but no one joins, much to my embarrassment.

"Don't down yourself. You're kind of funny and your sarcasm proves quick wits. Also, you're an exceptional runner." Tabs says, and I look at her like she just recited the entire Bible.

"Um...thank...you? You have nice vocal chords." I say lamely, and a silence passes before Tabs bursts into laughter, her laugh reminding me of church bells. Soon, all three of us are laughing like a trio of psychos, and earn the most creeped out looks from Damien.

I walk up to him and put my arm around his shoulders, and he rolls his eyes.

"What?" I say, and he rolls his eyes again.

"You scared me, ya know? Screaming at Tabs as if she just said you look like a horse, which you kinda do from a certain angle." he laughs as I punch him,

"If I look like a horse and you're my identical twin, what are you?" I smile sweetly as he groans in defeat, as I laugh.

"Hey sis, can I ask you a big flavour?" He asks and I furrow my eyebrows.

"A favour yes, no flavour though. I only come in sassy flavour." I flip my hair to the back as he laughs.

"Try getting Jack's attention for me, will ya? The guy won't listen to me and i've been trying since...well before the feud between you and Tabs." he says, and I roll my eyes.

"Watch." I smirk, and make my way to Jack, who seems to pay no attention to anything but the white disk.

"Five right....but wait.....oh......thirteen....but....oh yea, okay...." His eyebrows are knotted in concentration, his fingers furiously typing away on the keyboard.

He sounded like me, trying to figure out how many calories there are in something, but not caring in the end and getting it anyways.

"Hey Jackaroo." I say, plonking myself next to him. He stops for a second, blinking in complete incredulousness before looking at me like I cracked the lamest pun in the history.

"What.The.Heck?" He asked, and I grinned playfully.

"What happen, Jackaroo?" I asked with fake innocence, tilting my head to the side. "Don't like your new name?"

We stare at each other for five seconds before he finally looks away and shakes his head.

"See? It's that simple." I smile at Damien, who's jaw is gap in shock.

"Wha...how....i tried....10 minutes...." he stammers, as I smile sweetly and force his mouth shut.

"Close your mouth, bro. Don't want any flies getting in there now, do we?" I say before walking away to Tabs and Whitney, who seem to be having a deep conversation about something.

"Hey guys!" I smile, as they focus their attention on me. Whitney widens her eyes as I look at her, confused.

"What?" I say, and she blinks a few times before biting her bottom lip.

"You and Damien look identical!" She says as if she just discovered the tenth wonder of the world. Tabs and I roll our eyes in unison.

"Oh really? I would've never guessed, considering he's my identical twin and all." I sarcastically remark, and she rolls her eyes now.

"No...I mean you guys have the exact same dimple in the exact same spot! Like look!" she grabs my face forcefully, making me look like a porcupine with no spikes, and twists my face to Tabs to show her. "Smile, Azure."

I give a petrifying smile, which seems to bring Tabs opinion on me even lower, but after a few seconds, she looks thoughtfully at the dimple and her eyes widen.

"You're right! It's in the exact same spot! Damien, come here!" she commands as his head snaps back and he rushes to us, his eyes peeking with curiosity.

"What's u-" he can't finish his sentence before our faces are put right next to each other, and I can see the mirrored fear in his eyes that are in mine.

"Smile!" Whitney and Tabs command as we both smile, as I notice his long dimple on his right cheek, almost glowing.

"Wooow!! And you guys have the same hair!"

"Same nose!"

"Same little freckle near your nose!"

"Same hair colour!"

"Same little ears!"

"Same skin tone!"

"Okay, okay, that's enough!" Damien and I screech together, as they laugh.

"The only thing that's not the same is the..." Tabs falters, her eyes suddenly boring into mine, making me increasingly uncomfortable. She turns pale and tugs Whitney's shirt sleeve.

"Whits...look..." Tabs says, as Whitney lets go of Damien's face, much to his relief, and stares into my eyes too. I back up a little, feeling uncomfortable with their eyes piercing into mine.

"What??" I say again, but this time they lean back, both looking at each other with dread-filled eyes.

"You...." Whitney started but faltered, and Damien suddenly seemed interested too. He looks into my eyes, and I stare back into his ocean blue ones, begging for answers.

"What?!?!?" I exclaim, tired of being the victim to their dreary stares.

"You have the same eyes as...." Tabs says, and suddenly Damien seems to realise too, his eyes almost popping out of his sockets as he backs away, seeming almost scared.

"As who??" I yell, fear etching at the corners of my mind. Who?

"The witch." Tabs says, her eyes filled with dread and a speck of anger.
