Suddenly Stuck

You waited for her outside like she had told you to. You were nervous. You could feel your fingers go numb as the wind blew against them. Even if you were practically made of fire, you could still feel the cold snow around your toes, for all that was under you had turned into a puddle. The puddle was cold. It was wet. It made your feet feel the same kind of numbness as when you sit on them for too long and then try to walk again. As if pins and needles were lightly jabbing at your skin, not hard enough to break it, but hard enough for you to feel the sting and cold of the point.

About 10 minutes had passed since she had gone inside. You were beginning to worry. You were wondering if you should go in to help her, or even just check in to see if she was alright. It was quiet when you put your ear to the door. You couldn't hear anything but the wind blowing against you. This only made you more worried, and you impatiently tapped your foot against the ground, hoping you would hear a sound. Any sound that would let you know that she was okay, or that she needed your help.

Another 10 minutes passed with no sign of her. You had paced, you had leaned against a nearby tree, you even sat in the snow, knowing you couldn't catch a cold from the freezing puddle that would form beneath you. You occasionally looked at the door of the building you were outside of, hoping to see it crack open, with her face following shortly after. But that's not what you saw. In fact, you didn't see anything. You heard the door creak open and before you knew it, you woke up on a cold stone floor.

You groaned as your eyes peeled open, even though you were very tempted to go back to sleep and not worry about whatever was going on. You knew where you were, and you weren't too worried about getting out. But then you remembered that you were to be waiting for Izabel outside. You panicked and quickly scanned the room, and saw her across from you in a cell similar to yours. She saw you looking at her and gave a small smile of relief, but then a look of terror rose on her delicate face again.

"I'm scared," she whimpered under her breath, close to tears. She always did get quieter when she felt that way. You were upset at the fact that you couldn't comfort her like you wanted to.

"It's going to be okay Iz. I promise I'll get us out of here." You weren't entirely sure if that was true or not, but it was the best thing you could think of to get her to calm down.

You would occasionally look around the room to see if there was anything you could use to help you escape, but there was nothing. You slumped back onto the cell wall and closed your eyes again. Soon afterwards, you hear the door creak open the slam back shut. This is followed by footsteps growing louder and louder each time. You didn't particularly care for the face you knew was coming around the corner in a mere matter of seconds.

"I can't believe that I caught both of you!" A devious chuckle filled the air as he spoke. "The human and the infamous prince of fire."

You rolled your eyes to yourself, since no one else could see them. You may have been a prince at one point, but that was long ago.

"I suppose I should say, previous prince. Your kingdom was destroyed when you were just beginning to understand how the world worked," he grinned and danced with victory.

You didn't respond in fear of snapping in front of Izabel, so you clenched your fists instead, and you hoped she couldn't tell that you were losing your temper. You didn't want her to see that side of you.

"Nothing to say?" his voice resonated off the walls and sounded like the screech of a kettle that's about to boil over. He was much too proud of himself at the moment. He turned his attention to Iz.

"If you touch her I will burn that smug smile off of your face. Don't even look at her. Don't talk to her either. Because I will kill you."

Izabel curled up into her sweater and tried to hide from the argument that was bound to happen at any moment. You didn't want to get angry in front of her but this guy is really starting to irritate you. You could feel the tips of your hair start to light and you only kept your eyes on Zenoch. He was the one that put you here, that killed your family. You weren't going to let your chance to end him escape you.

"Zenoch. Let me out let's settle this ourselves. She has nothing to do with this."

"Why would I let you out? The one person that has a bone to pick with me, and the one person that could destroy me?"

"Because you know she's not a part of this. This is between you and me. So let's go and end this, it's inevitable. You know that, don't you. You're just scared of me winning."

You don't want to let on that you're a bit scared to face him yourself. Fire does melt ice but too much of it will have you burnt out in less than four minutes.

"Fine Axel, let's go," and he unlocked your cell door just like that.
