Everything felt perfect. When the song was over we returned to our table, Ava and Jack were nowhere to be found. I looked at Kyle confused.
“Should we go look for them?” I asked as he returned the confused look.
“Yeah. You go there and I’ll go this way,” I nodded and went in the direction Kyle pointed me to. I walked down the hall, the music was staring to fade out. All I could hear were my heels clicking on the cement. I sighed turning down another empty hall. I gave up and circled around to where Kyle said he would be.
My jaw dropped, and all of the air from my lungs seemed to have left all at once. I stood there in disbelief as Trish’s lips covered Kyle’s. He forced her back and wiped his lips. He turned to me, lost for words.
“Katherine it’s not,” he started walking towards me.
I cut him off “Save it,” I started walking the other way. I could hear him calling my name, but he gave up when I didn’t turn around. The tears streamed down my face as I walked outside. My house was too far to walk, and it’s snowing out. I didn’t know who to call, I defiantly wasn’t going back inside to find Kyle. I got my phone from my clutch and dialed Harry’s number. I tried to steady my voice before he picked up, but he knew.
“What’s wrong?” he answered.
“Can you come pick me up please?” I sniffled in to the speaker.
“Wait there,” he said and hung up. I couldn’t believe Kyle did that. How could he do that? I thought he was different.
“Katherine!” I turned and saw Kyle jogging towards me. I had nowhere to go; I looked down to the ground as he approached me.
“What do you want?” I spat.
“Let me explain. It’s not what it looked like,”
“Looked like you invited the wrong girl,” I shot at him, warm tears still trailing down my face. I could see head light appear from the dark street, thank god. I don’t think I would be able to stand here another minute.
“No Katherine she kissed me. She followed me when I went to look for Jack,” Kyle explained. He didn’t even notice Harry pulling his car up. Harry got out and barged over to us.
“What the hell did you do?” Harry yelled.
“Nothing! This is just a misunderstanding!” Kyle shouted back.
“Stay the fuck away from her!” Harry said getting in Kyle’s face.
“Katherine just tell him,” Kyle turned to me. Harry turned to me, his jaw was clenched shut. He looked furious.
“Harry let’s go,” I said quietly getting in to his car.
“If you ever hurt her again I swear to god,” Harry said loud enough for me to hear sitting in the car. I looked down at my hands that were sitting in my lap, avoiding eye contact with Kyle through the window.
The force of Harry’s foot stepping down on the peddle pushed my back against the seat. We came to a stop light and that when the silence broke.
“Did he touch you?” Harry asked delicately.
“No,” I replied clearing my throat.
“Do you want to talk about what happened?” he asked as we pulled in to my drive way. I stared at the mansion I call home. “We don’t have to,” Harry said after my long pause.
“Do you want to come inside?” I asked looked in to his emerald eyes.
“Is that going to be okay with Clive?”
“We have to be quite,” I said getting out of the car. Harry followed as I slowly opened the front door. I slide off my heels as Harry quietly closed the door. He took off his boots. I took his hand and led him up the stairs.
“Katherine?” I heard my father. I quickly pushed Harry in to my room and hoped he stayed in the dark. My heart was racing as my dad walked closer to me.
“Yeah,”
“How was the dance?” he asked rubbing his eyes. He obviously hasn’t gone to bed yet.
“It was good,” I said slowly backing away.
“I’m glad you had fun,” he smiled and hugged me. I didn’t hug back, it felt too weird. I gave him a poor smile and closed my door. I let out the air I didn’t know I was holding as the footsteps faded away.
“Is he gone?” Harry asked, I could tell he was close. His voice low and his accent was very thick.
“Yeah, he’s gone,” I said flipping the lights on. I was surprised to see Harry only a few inches away from me. I smiled and walked to my closet.
“Wow,” harry said under his breath. “You’re room looks amazing,”
“Thanks,” I smiled grabbing a pair of sweat pants and a loose T. I walked in to my bathroom and closed the door. After I changed out of the dress I would only wear once I revealed myself to the mirror. My cheeks were stained with tears. My eyes were red, my eyeliner ran down my face and I just got my nose to calm down. I washed off my make up and went back out to Harry. I sat down on my bed and welcomed him to join me.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I didn’t really want to vent to Harry, but I knew what would happen if he didn’t come up here with me. I would have returned to my old habits. I closed my eyes before filling in Harry on the event that took place before I had called him to come and rescue me. Tears fell down my cheeks, slowly, not as hard as earlier. I looked up to Harry for the first time since I opened my mouth, he looked at me with concern, love, anger and hurt.
“Thanks for coming up here with me. You probably have better things to do,” I said wiping the tears away, looking back down to my lap.
“I’d rather sit here with you than do anything else,” he said raising my face with his fingers. “He isn’t worth your tears anyways,” he added. His thumb pad rubbed against my cheek. Something about him just felt comforting. Harry leaned forward, his lips pressed against my forehead and his arms wrapped around my back. I exhaled and let my head fall on to his chest.
