13. A Path to Nowhere
Brian's Point of View
"Where are we going again?" I ask, "I'm tired."
"Come on, we are almost there." Alicia replies.
"Welcome." says an unknown voice.
"Hello." Alicia says calmly.
The two of us follow the old man into a castle-like building and I am lead through a maze of corridors and eventually end up at a dead end with two rooms facing each other.
"I'll take the left room." I call.
"Okay"
When I enter the room, I am met by a clean, sparkly, completely and utterly empty room except for a bed, table, and one chair. The lighting is decent, but part of the room is dark. As much as I love darkness, I can't stand watching the lights flicker. I send a jolt of electricity through the clearly visible wire and hope it's the right one. Sure enough, the lights stop flickering and remain strong. I unsheathe my sword and set it on the table in case I need it immediately. I lie down on the bed and close my eyes. After a few moments, a blissful, dreamless sleep settles down on me.
When I wake up, I put on my sheath and sword and exit the room. I walk back through the maze. The air smells like rotten wood... Most of the place probably is. I find a huge room with a giant stone table with wooden tables around it. I pull up a seat and tie the sheath around one of the desks and sit down. The chair creaks under my weight. Wow. Rotting like everything else. If I stay here long enough, I'm going to rot like everything else.
I pull Alicia aside after breakfast.
"Hey, Alicia? Why are we here?" I ask.
"We were flying for half the day now. I thought we should take a break." I says as she turns away. Later, when I know no one is watching, I send out a clone to look around the place. When I go back to bed, I find the clone there, sitting in the chair.
"Hey." He says. Wow. It is like really weird to hear someone who looks just like you talking with your voice.
"Anything out of order?" I ask.
"Yeah. Look at this." He pulls off is cloak, revealing arrows with barbed tips and curved knives. "I found these behind every other brick. There everywhere. In traps.
A.J's Point of View
I'm racing past the jail cells and toward the exit. There! I'm outside looking at the night sky. The air is fresh and clear. Not. The factories lining the fortress spew black smoke and running through it is making my eyes water. I shake my head to clear my thoughts and continue to run.
"Yes!!" I yell as I run. Finally, freedom.
Then in the distance, I see the gates close. As if that could hold me off. I run straight into it. Big mistake. within yards of the gate, My superspeed stops working. I hit the metal gate at full force. Stars fly overhead as I close my eyes.
