Chapter 1

The light shone through my eyelids revealing red. This irritated me and I opened my eyes slowly getting used to the brightness.

I reached over to my bedside table and checked the time 9:46am. I groaned and kicked the covers off before padding off to the bathroom.

I looked in the mirror and saw a girl about 5"7 with pale skin, hazel and blood-shot eyes, bruise-like dark circles from lack of sleep, full lips, straight nose, hollow cheekbones from under-eating and waist length brown hair. I disliked my appearence, the only thing I liked was my hair because it was the easiest thing for me to control about myself, I could do anything I liked to it.

I tied my hair up in a messy ponytail and splashed cold water on my face. It was sweltering hot and my hair was sticking to my neck. I decided it was best  to have a shower and quickly stripped off and jumped in. I took my time in the shower, letting the water run over me like heavy rain, it made me feel peaceful. After my shower I went downstairs to find the house empty. Mum must be at work and since dad fucked off years ago I didn't bother checking for him.

"Mum!" I called just to be safe. I smiled when there was no reply.

I grabbed an apple and munched on it quickly before going upstairs to change into some high waisted denim shorts, converse and a cropped band tee. I put on some make up and went to the kitchen to call Amelia. By this time it was about 1.

Amelia had been my best friend since year 4. She was short, witty and shameless. She had shoulder length brown hair, dark brown eyes and she also had tanned skin.

I was always jealous of her ability to tan so easily, I have always been pale as a ghost. I sat and thought about her skin, forgetting i had called her.

"Ruby? Ruuuuuuuuuuuby!?"

I snapped out of my reverie to the sound of her annoyed voice.

"Oh hi!" I said quickly. "Sorry, I dropped my phone." I lied.

"Fair enough. What're you doing tonight?"

"Nothing, I haven't made any plans."

"Well good 'cause Connor is having a HUGE party! Nearly 100 people are going."

My heart clenched in excitement.

"Sounds great! I'm coming to yours now to get ready." I couldn't help but grin.

"Okay, see ya in a bit. Love you!" She hung up before I could reply.

I ran upstairs to collect my things. I grabbed a large overnight bag and shoved a change of clothes in them, pajamas, toothbrush, make up.

I had the outfit planned in my head. My favourite top, pleated coulderoy skirt, knee high black socks with converse.

I looked all over my room and couldn't find my favourite top. I went downstairs and went through the laundry. Not there. I decided to check my mums room and her laundry as well. Not there either.

By now I was getting really frustrated and called my mum.

The phone rang 5 times before the answered.

"Hello?" she said cheerily.

"Mum, where's my favourite top?" I got straight to the point.

"I don't know, it's your top."

"Oh okay, whatever." I hung up before she could say anything.

I gave up my search and grabbed my overnight bag and my handbag and headed out of the door a letter addressed to me in the letter slot. I picked it up and shoved it in my handbag before shutting the door behind me.
