•Ally's POV•
Yeah, so it turns out this "great little farm" was in the middle of nowhere. Literally. We had no Internet, no TV, I didn't have a cell phone. The only form of communication we had was a telephone, and I was never allowed to use that because it cost a lot. My mom homeschooled me until grade twelve, and I just stayed at home for a while after that.
One night I was just sitting in my room reading a book like I always do; there was nothing else to entertain me at all.
"Ally!" I heard my mom call.
"Yeah?"
"Phone!"
What the actual heck. Who could be calling me?! I have no friends...
I walked into the kitchen where the phone was and picked it up hesitantly.
"Hello?"
"Allllyyy!" A shrill voice called my name into the speaker. I instantly recognized it.
"Meg! I can't believe you're calling!" Megan was one of my best friends I had had before we moved to Ireland. We used to live really close to each other, we went to school together there too.
"Yeah, I just wanted to let you know I have a super big surprise for you!"
"Uhm... Okay?" I was very curious.
"You're coming down to Toronto next weekend to hang out with me for a few weeks! And don't worry, I've told you parents and everything, you just need to pack!"
"Oh my gosh are you serious! That's crazy!"
Our conversation lasted about ten more minutes before I knew i should get off. Once I hung up I pranced to my room and immediately started packing clothes for myself. I couldn't wait!
•Niall's POV•
"Hey man, what's up?" I turned around to see Liam standing at the doorway to my hotel room.
"Not much, just thinking."
"You know you're supposed to be writing our new song right? I came to see if you needed help or anything. You know, for like inspiration."
That's the thing with Liam. He was always looking out for me, trying to find ways to help.
"Yeah, I'm in the song writing mood, but I just can't think of what it should be about," I said, accepting his offer.
Liam took a seat in the chair across from my bed. "Well, how about a girl you know?"
"That's the thing. I don't have a special girl in my life right now..."
"Yeah, I wanted to ask you about that. Why don't you ever want to see anyone else?"
And that's when it clicked. Ally.
I decided to open up to Liam.
"There was this girl that I knew a while back. She lived next door to me for a few years, and one day, she left unexpectedly, back to Canada. It was just the night before that I think we were finally beginning to admit our feelings for each other. I really cared about her Liam, and I still do. I just never heard from her again."
"Wow. I had no idea... Why don't you tell the story through the song?"
"Good idea. Care to help me with the lyrics a bit?"
"Yeah, for sure, whatever I can do to give you a hand. How do you want it to start?"
I thought for a minute.
And then the last words I said to her popped into my head.
"Don't try to make me stay," I said aloud. Liam scribbled down what I had just said. "Those were the last words I said to her."
I thought a bit longer.
Quietly singing those words along the melody I had come up with already, I came up with the next few lines.
"So it should start like this." I cleared my throat and began to sing, "Don't try to make me stay, or ask if I'm okay, I don't have the answer. Don't make me stay the night, or ask if I'm alright, I don't have the answer."
Liam smiled in approval. His eyes were looking for an explanation for the words, though.
"When I last saw her, that night at midnight, she tried to make me stay at her house one last time so we could spend as much time as possible with each other. But I was so mad, I just left. I didn't realize how much the heartache would hurt. She tried cracking jokes, but it didn't really cheer me up." Liam nodded.
We both sat quietly for a few minutes.
"How about this," he broke the silence. "Heartache doesn't last forever, I'll say I'm fine. Midnight ain't no time for laughing, when you say goodbye."
I smiled, realizing how perfect that was. "Now for the next verse. Lets do the chorus last."
"I've tried to ask myself 'should I see someone else?' I wish I knew the answer. But I know, if I go now if I leave, then I'm on my own tonight, I'll never know the answer." I sung out. I briefly explained to Liam how this was about how I didn't understand how much this stupid choice of mine would hurt.
Then Liam chimed in with the same part as last time, but switched up some words. "Midnight doesn't last forever, dark turns to light. Heartache flips my world around, I'm falling down, down, down."
After that we came up with a killer chorus, naming the things about her that kept me hooked. We completed the song before singing it over a couple times together, tweaking it a bit. After we were both satisfied, Liam spoke up.
"Time to go show the boys."
