I began to feel a little insecure and looked away but when I looked back seconds later he was still focused on me. He brought his beer bottle up to his lips and took a swig, smirking as he lowered the bottle back to his chest.
I stood up ready to make a run for it. I had never been confident around boys and I was feeling slightly uncomfortable.
I picked up my cup ready to go back into the kitchen but it was too late. He was already on his way over.
I slumped back down in defeat.
"Do you want a real drink." He said as he approached, gesturing towards my plastic cup.
His voice was heavenly, deeper than I expected and slightly raspy. His accent was well spoken, I could easily tell he was from around these parts.
"Uh..yeah" I nodded, not able to look him in the eye.
He was back from the kitchen in an instant with two fresh beers in hand. I gladly took one and thanked him.
"I'm Harry by the way."
So this was Harry, I should have worked that out before. I could definitely see why Mum went on about him so much.
"Ella" I said politely, even managing a slight smile.
"Mind if I sit with you?"
I shook my head.
"No you don't mind or no you can't sit here?" He laughed.
I laughed as well realising I hadn't given a straight answer.
"No I don't mind if you sit here." I smiled.
"So you just moved here with your family right?"
"Yeah from Manchester."
"Manchester's cool, I went there a couple of months ago for an X Factor audition.
"You auditioned for X Factor?" I said in disbelief.
He nodded. "I made it to bootcamp, I'm heading to London in a couple of weeks."
"That's great!"
I couldn't be sure but I swear I saw a slight blush on Harry's cheeks.
The chatter continued. Now I was in Harry's company I was more comfortable than ever, he put me at ease much unlike his flirtatious presence from across the garden earlier.
There was a lengthy silence before I spoke.
"Sing something."
He seemed taken aback by this.
"Uh, I suppose I could. Could we go somewhere a little more private though."
I nodded.
Harry lead me to the bottom of his garden. He reached a hand out and helped me climb on top of the back wall, over looking a corn field. It was peaceful. The stars were out by now and we were well away from the drunken goings on in the house.
"Any song preferences?"
I shook my head "surprise me."
Harry began to sing Breakeven by The Script. My mouth dropped in awe and I became completely lost in his voice. He was amazing, he was blessed to have such a captivating voice. I smiled to myself, was there anything not likeable about this boy? I doubted it.
Once he was finished I applauded. Harry being the typical smug teenage boy jumped of the fence and took a tipsy bow. I giggled and he reached both hands around my waist and help me down.
We both drunkenly made our way back up the garden laughing and stumbling on the way.
When we got back all the kids seemed to have got bored of the adults intoxicated ruchus and were now all in the lounge, some watching Finding Nemo while others had fallen asleep. The parents had grown louder the more alcohol they had consumed. The women stumbling around to the music and men engaging in some sort of drinking game.
"I think it's about time I got home." I sighed.
"Oh, well hold on a minute I'll walk you." Harry sweetly offered, brushing past me to get a jacket.
I text Mum to say I was leaving. She probably wouldn't, or more likely couldn't read it, but she can't really say I didn't inform her of my whereabouts.
We crossed the secluded road together the only light coming from a couple of dim street lamps, the moon was nowhere to be seen. I stuffed my hands deep into my coat pockets as the cold suddenly hit me. I fog of mist exited my mouth as I breathed out deeply.
Once we reached my driveway things became a little awkward. I was expecting Harry to simply drop me off and leave, but instead he stood opposite me.
"I had a lot of fun tonight Ella."
I nodded in agreement. "Yeah me too."
That's when Harry made his move. He slowly started to lean in placing a soft kiss on my lips. A sudden rush of confidence overtook me as I decided to deepen the kiss. I wrapped my arms around Harry's neck and his slid around my waist. Harry's neck was tilted downwards and I had to stand on my tip toes in order to reach him. He certainly was tall for a 16 year old boy. I couldn't be sure but I swear I felt him smile into the kiss. Just as he slid his tounge in between my lips I pulled away for breath. I smiled and rested my forehead on his, my arms still around his neck and his now resting on my hips.
"Sorry if that was a little too forward." Harry whispered sweetly.
I moved a hand from Harry's shoulder and placed it on his cheek.
"You're blushing" I giggled, feeling the heat on his cheek.
He shied away from me, causing me to let out a childish giggle again.
"I'll see you soon" he said while placing another soft kiss to my cheek.
I stood in my driveway as he walked back to his place. He turned around and sent be a cute wave to which I returned. I reached under a plant pot and retrieved the spare key and proceeded to unlock the door. The alcohol in my system had somewhat disappeared now as if Harry's kiss had somehow sobered me up. I decided I should turn on the tv for a bit and an advertisement for X Factor began to play.
Dermot O'Leary appeared on screen saying how X Factor changes contestants lives. I smiled at the thought of Harry's beautiful voice. The commercial ended soon after but not before Dermot announcing the show was coming soon. I won't lie, I was excited for Harry. I couldn't wait to see his dreams came true.
