I turned to my side and looked at Luke. He didn’t seem to have stopped sleeping since we arrived in London seven hours ago. He was missing his mum and brothers, although he didn’t mention it. Joe and Kate didn’t blink an eye when we found out Luke and I would be sleeping in a room on our own together. They knew how much help he was to me, how he made me feel calm. I softly slipped off the bed, pulling the duvet up to his chin and smoothing his hair. I was about to leave the room when I stopped. Pulling out some paper I wrote him a note.

Gone exploring

Call or text me when you’re up

Love S x

I placed the note on his dresser and then crept out of the room, grabbing my purse and phone. I began walking towards the nearest tube station. I remembered the underground system well and paid for a travel card. I got onto the Bakerloo line and got off and Oxford Street. I loved coming up the stairs and into the bright light and the bustling of people on their way to work. It was early in London and so people rushed past clutching Starbucks cups. I checked my watch, the little date section told me it was April the 11th, I smelt the air around me, turning to my left I saw a Starbucks. Pulling my coat off I walked into the slightly crowded building. The warm heating was a pleasant change from the cold outside. I smiled at the server and ordered my Frappuccino. I hadn’t had one in ten years and I felt now was the right time. The server took my name and I sat, reading a discarded newspaper. After a few minutes my name was called. I folded the paper, replacing it on the table and walking to the counter. A tall guy with broad shoulders was ordering a drink, his back to me.

‘Scout Thomas?’ The server asked as I nodded, putting a few coins in the tip jar. I was about to say thank you when the guy ordering grabbed my wrist. I looked up at him startled, and then gasped dropping my drink to the floor where it exploded. The guy was tall, towering over my 5ft 4 height, his eyes a shocking green. His brown curls were loose. His own eyes studied mine as he whispered

‘Scout?’ Harry’s voice never used to be that deep. Harry was supposed to be dead. I didn’t waste any time. My arms closed around his neck as he held me up, my knees shaking so bad I couldn’t hold my own weight. People were staring at us but I didn’t even notice. I felt something cold against my body so I pulled away to see two silver chains hanging around Harry’s neck. One was a small paper plane the other a locket. I dug in my jumper and pulled out my own. Harry smiled down at me, I was glad to see he still had his dimples.

‘I thought you were dead.’ I said, my eyes never leaving Harry’s face

‘I thought you’d left me.’ Harry replied. I dropped his hand, my expression changing to shock

'What?' I asked quietly. Harry swallowed and pulled me to the door, as we stepped out he took my coat from me and placed it round my shoulders. I smiled, Harry always was a gentleman. I turned to face him, his face was still lit with a smile but it was the other little things that I noticed. There were bags under his eyes, which in turn were outlined in red. His skin was greyer than it was when he was six years old.

'When I woke up in hospital, you had left. No one knew what had happened to you, only that you had left. I thought.' Harry stopped himself in time

'What did you think Harry?' I stepped towards him. I had to crane my neck to look up at him. He looked at the floor and swallowed again.

'I thought you didn't care enough about me to say goodbye.' My eyes widened and I shook my head rapidly because I couldn't find the right words. He looked at me and smiled

'It's okay, Scout. I know you had to leave. Did you really think I was dead?' I nodded shyly. It felt so weird. We were just staring at each other, we hadn't seen each other in years. We were bestfriends. Until a few minutes ago I thought this guy was dead.

'Uh-Scout?' Harry's hand was waving in front of my face, waking me from my daze, 'Do you wanna go somewhere?'

'Sure where?' Harry bit his lip

'Well I have some audition thing and my family are already there, I just left for some coffee. Guess it will shock them when I come back with you.' Harry smiled as he took my hand and led me down the busy street. We took the tube and I fell asleep on Harry's shoulder, the jetlag finally taking over. He shook we awake when we arrived at the station.

'You came this far for coffee?' I joked

'Had to clear my head.' He simply stated back at me, squeezing my hand. He looked really happy, and his skin was gaining more colour. We walked a little down the street until we reached a big queue of people. Harry simply looked over the crowd and then started pulling me towards a group of people. A miggle aged lady turned around when she sensed Harry approaching. Her eyes wandered to me her brows furrowed, as though she recognised me. I smiled at her. It was Anne, Harry's mum. Anne's eye suddenly widened as she hurried towards us, completely ignoring her son as she embraced me fiercely. Anne's hugs always made you feel love. She grabbed my shoulders holding me at arm's length studying my face carefully.

'Scout?' she whispered. People around us were looking at us as though we were some kind of entertainment for the queue.

'Well hopefully mum, you'd be very embarrassed if it wasn't.' Harry joked, but Anne just pulled me back into a hug. I hadn't felt this loved for a long time so I hugged her back. I then said hi to Gemma and Anne's new boyfriend Robin, and the rest of the family who I'd never met before.

'Look! She still wears the chain Harry!' Anne said, picking up my chain and opening it, displaying the picture of young Harry and I, 'Harry has never taken his off. He's missed you loads you know, never stops looking at his necklace or talking about you.' Any other guy would have rolled his eyes, gone red or denied it but Harry looked down at me.

'Mum, she knows.' I smiled at him and walked over to meet his family in the queue. It was massive, there were signs for the X-Factor everywhere.

'So what are you doing in this audition?' everyone looked at me strangely.

'I'm singing.' I nodded and then realised that the X-Factor was a singing show. Everyone was talking but I was tucked into Harry's side, his arm around my shoulders. When I felt a subtle vibration in my jeans pocket. Pulling out my phone I saw I had a text.

Luke <3

Just woke up, got your note. Text me where you are and I'll meet you.'

Lots of love Luke <3

I felt Harry stiffen a bit beside me.

'Who's Luke?' he asked

'My friend from Australia.'  No one was paying either of us any attention as Harry seemed to be considering something.

'Why are you here?' he said turning on me. I realised how weird it must be. His best friend  disappeared half way around the world for ten years then shows up in a Starbucks at the exact same time as him. I looked up at him slowly.

'They're doing a retrial. For my dad.' Harry's face fell a bit as he slowly nodded. I quickly texted Luke back, sending him at snapshot of a map showing his where I was

Got a suprise, hurry up!

Scout <3

Locking my phone I smiled as Harry squeezed my shoulders and the queue moved forwards.
