Chapter One - Kate

Saying school is a necessary evil would be a major understatement. It's more like a sadistic, twisted, evil mastermind plot that we are forced to commit to. That sounds a little bit more truthful.

As like every morning, I woke up about 10 minutes shy of being late and still had to drag myself out of my toasty bed. I skipped breakfast, got dressed in jeans and a band tee and grabbed my bag from the front door. I barely had time to shout "goodbye" to my dad before running out the door.

There I found her, as always, waiting for me. Leaning up smugly against the garage door. My beautiful vintage bike. With a rusty gold paintjob and tall handlebars, this bike was my baby. I flung by leather bag onto my back and hopped on.

As I rode down the steep driveway, I instantly regretted not bringing a jacket. The cold breeze hit me as I peddled and I felt myself shivering a bit. I considered going back home, but then I saw him.

Him. That GUY. That one guy I see every single morning riding on the same path to school. For about a month I've seen him riding only a small distance ahead of me at the same time every morning, but not once had I ever seen his face.

As usual, we kept our distance, but at the last little hill before Willam Street (Where our school was) he stopped and waited for me to catch up. When I got there, we both waited exactly 3 seconds before taking off as fast as we could down the hill, speeding against eachother, somehow we knew what to do every time.

Most of the time he won though, and as he rode off way ahead of me into the distance, I swear I could hear him laughing.
